Anyone versed in what the junction boxes do? Or are they just fuse boxes?

I 'think' the box behind contains the big fuses for the starter motor. Just looking at my picture I think I should put an insulator cover on that terminal. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Battery replacement

Hi all,
It may be something and nothing but a doubt remains. I fitted a Bosch AGM S5 A13 battery last week from Tayna.com and which arrived next day. There wasn't a venting tube etc. included with the battery though. However the previous battery did in fact have one( Varta) and was also a AGM. Does anyone know if these are no longer required on these later ones or do I need to go back to this job? The relevant photos here all show the venting connecter and tubes?

If the Bosch doesn't have a vent hole then it doesn't need a vent tube. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Well I've checked with the supplier who confirmed that they do not require venting and therefore vent tube etc. isn't supplied.
Good news as already fitted!

Thank you to the original poster. A really great tutorial which helped me change my battery with no fuss. I have fitted a Bosch AGM to replace the Land Rover badged Varta. Bought from Tayna batteries who I have used before and recommend - good prices and rapid delivery. 2012 Range Rover L322 Westminster TDV8

Thanks for all that usefull information. I have had a bit of luck today, I ordered a new Freelander 2 battery the other day for my daughter, and the supplier said they had a supply issue, would I take a similar battery. I said I would see if it would work, I now have a new super deluxe Rangerover battery!

Welp...I did my first read of this GREAT thread because my Turtle (Green 2012 US-spec Autobiography) almost made me call the tow truck for the first time. It looks like I have a battery issue and I'm going to have to figure out if it's the battery or a drain. Fortunatelly, I was able to half charge the battery using my Ctek charger and get home.

Reading this post, I had a couple questions. There's a lot of talk about the ECU in the way of changing the battery...but what ECU is that? Is it the main engine ECU? Or what's it for? The corollary question is, why did the ECU lose the fan on the later models? I've yet to find out if I have it, but I've read that several 2012's don't have it...so I assume mine will not. Which made me think....well....I kinda want it Smile.

Great post...I'm going to re-read it soon as my current and very preliminary assessment points to the battery being faulty. I've had the car for well over 4 yrs constantly topping off the AGM battery with the Ctek, so the battery is at least 5+ yrs old. When the car didn't start, I left it charging for 10+ hrs overnight before heading home, and the Ctek charger only moved one light, and it was quite warm to the touch. This is very unusual. We'll see, more diagnostics to come as I enjoy reading these threads. 2012 Range Rover Autobiography

Many thanks for the guide. Greatly simplified the task particularly the bonnet service position tip although I would recommend doing this with two of you as you really don't want to drop the bonnet with the rams detached at only one end. I found I was able to leave the ECU connected and haul it forward out of the way after removing the two screws that secure the loom going across the panel ahead of the ECU.
I would add that when I reset the battery in IID I used the following process.

Select 'Service/Test' in Menu.
Select 'BCM-Body Control'
Select 'Battery Replacement'
Follow Requests for input. For me (11MY TDV8) there was no request to set battery type which I have read of elsewhere. Edited to read. Just discovered that's in the CCF although the list in mine is not straightforward with no options that match the S5 A13.
I fitted a Bosch A13 AGM battery which was very reasonably priced from Costco. £177 inc VAT IIRC. This was about 10% less than the 'shelf' price as they had an offer on at the time. 2011c Vogue SE 4.4 Oil Burner

Well I've been playing with the CCF battery type data for my vehicle, an 11MY TDV8.
Firstly The options are for H and T batteries from 5 to 8. also an H8HD.Simply, these are DIN size standards.
H models are 175 deep by 190 tall
T models are 175 deep by 175 tall
The number refers to length with 8 meaning 353mm so an H8 = British 019 or Bosch 013.
However, the car doesn't care what the physical size of the battery is, it's the capacity that matters.
So I decided to chose the standard H8 as that most closely follows the 95Ah 850 CCA.
I do not know whether the CCA refers to EN, DIN or SAE CCA standards but I'm guessing DIN because that is the size standard. UK batteries are almost always quoted in EN values so...

My feeling is that they are SAE values because Ford (orginator of the CCF file concept). These are higher than EN values. So the aim is now to set the CCF value to H8HD as the Bosch SAE CCA value is approximately 900A and nearer to the 950A choice than it is to 800A.

I tried to flash the CCF twice but both times reported failure although subsequent reading of the CCF revealed the updated value??? Any hints on the correct incantations gratefully received. 2011c Vogue SE 4.4 Oil Burner

I have just changed my 2012 4.4 to an AGM battery, after the clicky starter motor issue. Absolute pain of a job, and without the 5 point torx it was hard to get everything tight, so I will get one of these off ebay and refit.

It did not start until I reset the battery, then it started first time.

Quick question, just took for a test drive, and the battery was sitting around 12.5v, rather than the 14.5-14.7v you would think if it were charging. Would this mean I have knocked something loose (an earth?), or could it just be the ECU is learning the battery before charging it?
