I think there was a software update that made the message less sensitive. General consensus it that it shows too early and can mostly be ignored.

Mine isn’t much different….

Could anyone tell me what the 'plastic flap' in the forth picture at the start of this excellent battery replacement thread is for? It's the plastic flap that goes over the battery - with the small, squidgy square of, I guess, sound or vibration insulation material stuck atop it? Only my new super hero engineer who recently did some work on the beastie, passed me this, as it was simply sat loosely atop the battery - probably due to the westy being serviced by a LR/RR '''specialist''' some number of months ago...
It looks like some gadget of sorts could be snapped into place on it also...

You can see a bit more of it on the first picture of the thread, the black plastic cable covers/pipes clip into it. I assume the sponge is to stop it rattling.

Garages mostly either seem to lose it or not put it back.

It’s not clipped in place that well, even when it’s fitted properly.

Also, while I've been looking through these terrific pics, on pic number three, I noticed that other squidgy spongy thing that sits between the bonnet/hood and the bonnet opening pivot mechanism... and this is just a hanging squidgy mess on mine - both sides - and wondered what this is for, and what it is called, so I can purchase a new pair. I guess it's either vib dampening or sound reduction, maybe even for the cab?!?

The engine start on my 2011 5.0 S/C had been gradually been sounding slower and slower in the recent cold spell, until one day it wouldn't turn over at all. To be fair, I think it still had the original 10 year old Land Rover branded battery, in which case it's lasted very well!

I'd carefully studied this guide, but once the replacement Exide battery arrived from Tayna and I lifted the bonnet to crack on (in the dark one evening) I found the ECU fitment is actually slightly different on my vehicle, not sure if that's because it a 5.0 S/C, or a 2011 model year thing. The security Torx bits I had ready weren't right, so I couldn't remove the ECU security plate to allow me to remove the connector plugs. Thankfully nino_nino's additional tips on removing the entire thing, along with cutting some cable ties and unclipping some additional pieces of wiring harness in the engine bay allowed me to swing the whole thing out the way, extract the old battery and fit the new one.

The job took a bit longer than expected because of that, but the car has been running beautifully for the week or so since then, and is hopefully back to it's usual super reliable self.

The bonnet switch is on the other side. Not sure what that flap is. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Agreed, my bonnet sensor is on the other side (and I did replace it a few months ago as it was intermittently operating and setting off the alarm, especially on sunny days!).

I've never worked out entirely what the random plastic/foam tray thing is meant to achieve, maybe to prevent anything dropping down onto and touching the battery terminals, but I religiously clip it back after any time I am working in that area...

A very helpful thread. Would anyone be able to explain what the various positive cables (ie red ones) lead to and which should be where? In changing my battery, it’s apparent there’s been some inventive amendments where two cables are running of the one terminal bolt, when they shouldn’t be.

Totally agree re coverage on here making it a straight forward task. Having the the correct tool to remove the security bracket as mentioned here is a must and the tip to remove the pollen filter assembly first is the way to go giving more room in restricted space.

Nice to be able to take a steady approach to this and be able to do it, knowing that RAC / Halfords were not able or willing to. Battery supplied by Tayna and the AGM type as required in 24hrs.
