I'll be measuring mine for an o-ring when I get a chance, with my preference leaving the green seal in place if there's room. The plastic housing doesn't move much but that could be due to the retaining clip rather than lack of gap for an o-ring.

Greames did you manage to find a suitable o-ring, and did it work?

I've tried ( perhaps not enough) PTFE tap but still getting the leak, does anyone have the part number for the elbow or links to buy it?

Thanks, -----------------------------------

I'll be trying BS620 (ID 79.77mm, section 5.33mm), having recently measured the spigot at 81mm and the housing 90mm.
If its a good fit then I'll order a couple of Viton ones.
The o-ring would replace the original seal.

I went around my throttle body with a few layers of electrical tape until I got a nice tight seal instead of the PTFE tape to be sure it wasn't going anywhere

My local bearing supplier has no information on BS620 so next week when I go to town I'll see if I can get BS338 and BS339, the adjacent original BS sizes in 3/16" section either side of BS620 to try. I didn't take my charts so didn't know the numbers of the adjacent sizes.
Update: BS338 is too thick and nitrile used in standard o-rings doesn't compress easily enough. Possibly a metric 81mm x 4.5mm would fit especially if available in silicone.

I managed to get a 5 pack of bs620 from https://www.simplybearings.co.uk/shop/ after trying ptfe tape.

To put it on i took out the clip in ring that holds the old seal inplace. It was tight so mounted it on the body, and not in situe as i struggled to get it mounted that way.

With a bit of wiggling its now in place and has fixed my turbo leak. I’ve done a couple thousand miles since and the car is transformed. Better fuel economy (+4/5mpg), pickup and gear changes. -----------------------------------

Hi Damonky,

Good job finding an o ring.

Could you clarify what you mean by mounting it on the body as opposed to in situe?

Also did you order the Viton variant of the o rings linked?

Kind regards

I'll have to have another look at mine as I didn't spot a clip-in section although I wasn't expecting one either.

I've found seals similar to the original seal but I need to re-measure mine and take a picture to see if any of the seals could be used.

hi @MarianaWestminster,

I ran the o-ring for a while but eventually it seems to have blown through, need the wiper x. seal - in the end I just bought the replacement part as I went to several outlets and none had it. -----------------------------------

Checked mine today and there were signs of a leak. When I took the elbow off the lower part of the throttle body tube was flattened so looks like someone had been clumsy last time it was off (it wasn't me). Used 2 O rings, some thick PTFE and some silicone grease to ease it on and it needed a good hard push to get the wire retainer to engage but it's now very tight and secure. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I use FUM-tape. Make throttle body diameter littlebit bigger with that and now elbow is not loose anymore with old seal. No signs of leak half year already.
Its very soft and gentle tape and can make very good result with that.
