TBH for myself I'm not sure if I'd take the gamble on a second-hand replacement part for this, even with the cost.

The second item may fit, all the links that attach to it are the same size, the top link is the same across all model years and the driveshaft should fit if it is good. But that's not to say there may be some difference that isn't obvious. Plus if something does subsequently go wrong you are very much on your own.

The pictures were just for research it will get a new one both sides as i dont trust the drivers side any more as Brid91 who started this thread had the drivers side fail on his, mine also needs a new driveshaft on the damaged side
as it came out, if possible i dont want to fit the same knuckle that it had before if the later one is the same fit and has been made stronger at the top.
I will keep digging as this is the worst safety failure i have ever had in any vehicle .
How can i put my family back in a car traveling around the country worrying if the 2nd one would fail and i will be sending a report to the DVSA and trying to get it attached to the original case Brid91 has running.

Evening everyone if anyone knows the winning numbers for tonights lottery please let me know.
Today Complaint sent to Landrover asking for a contact who would like to deal with my case, Case filed with DVSA and trying to get it running along with Brid91 case as he kindly gave me the details of his case and arrangements for £3000 worth of work to be done to my lovely car so i will actualy feel safe driving it when i go to collect.
I have to say even with this major problem i still look forward to getting the car back as driving the wifes Fiat 500 gets you into all sorts of trouble when you pull out put your foot down and not a lot happens until a pair of eyes are stairing at you in the rear view mirror. Shocked

I also spent some of today dealing with Rob at Duckworths and i have to say he is an excellent contact to have and should be anyones fist contact when they need any parts as he went above and beyond to help. Thumbs Up

"i have to say he is an excellent contact to have and should be anyones fist contact when they need any parts" I know youre Censored off, this is going a bit too far though LOL.

I find it hard to believe Land Rover haven't initiated a recall for this, well thinking further, I CAN believe they haven't done a recall and shame on them. BMW i3 Electric Car

So, as my VIN ends in HA369614, does that mean I have the modified suspension part and can stop worrying about this as a potential issue? 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

@154JON

Well done on taking the time to try and work out the different model numbers for the front Hub/Knuckles!, i have been two days so far trying to get an answer on this, have you found anything out if the newer type knuckle will ok for the 2014 model L405's?.

I think if the newer part with the bigger "neck" is what is now fitted to the later models, i think its the way to go. So something from a 2018 or 2019 L405 should work?, I can't see why not as long as its 3.0L for the same etc. If i am wrong someone chip in.

Your words here cover all we really need to know :

"I have found a new part with part number LR134929 which Supersedes LR099134 & LR115105 but the part number it seems i need is LR146343 and i am being told that the wheel knuckle for cars after 2017 might not fit as part numbers changed would anyone know if the part changed or is it just the part number. Or even if there is only one Knuckle that has ever been made for all models of L405 and there have just been part number changes."

Maybe even casting marks like the PLA3K185 that i seem to be finding a lot might help us to know if the actual physical part itself changed some how, how ever small a change?, or as you say maybe its just the part numbers that again, changed?.

Someone in the know maybe with these parts available to view together could help us save a life!.

Also, going back to elboss post of 24th Mar 2021 :

"I own a 2015 RR L405

And yes, this is a known issue with this model as I understand. The Land Rover Dealer in Dubai is the 1st (to my knowledge) to notice this issue and bring it up to LR ... Both sides on my Range Rover been replaced under warranty during regular maintenance visit.

According to the dealer issue is addressed with an improved part."

+ The mentioned Improved Part = New style knuckle with the bigger "neck"?.

United Kingdom 2015 Range Rover Vogue SDV8 Santorini Black

Afternoon Everyone.
An update on what i have dealt with and found out so far.
When the Knucle on my Range Rover failed the AA man called the local Range Rover main dealer where the car was sold new and where it had received its first 5 services but he was told it could not be excepted by them due to work load so it was taken to my local Land Rover approved Garage called Red Lion Garage where it had its last service and MOT. Red Lion garage are Land Rover approved to carry out repairs and engineers inspection. Red Lion garage odered the nuckle and driveshaft and fitted them and my L405 is better than before as i also had them order the drivers side knucle, front and back lower arms both sides and roll bar bushes, all genuine parts from Land Rover Retailer.I can't say exactly the replies i have received from Land Rover after requesting them to cover the cost of repairs because it says on the replies that Any unauthorised review; use, disclosure or distribution of there messages is prohibited but the long and short is they refused to have any further interest as the vehicle was not inspected by one of there technicians at one of there retail outlets and if i want to escalate the matter further i should go to the Motor Ombudsman. The repair happened within a couple of days so i received the message saying that it had to be inspected by a land rover retailer technician after the repair had started
This morning i went to the garage to collect all the old parts incase the DVSA want to see them as i have opened a case and what was sitting in there car park but a nice 2015 L405 which had been found to have a crack in the top mount of the Knucle.
The pictures below show the inside of the hole where the top balljoint goes on the knucle and on the broken one there is a build up of hard white subtsance which i would say has been caused by dissimilar metals being in contact and on the knuckle that has not broken it is clean,Both the balljoint surface and the inside of the knucle hole for the balljoint are smooth and clamp together very tight so this white substance has formed in a place where there is no room for it.

Sorry my mistake the balljoint surface is not flat but has a cutout all the way around for the bolt.

Also forgot to say that i had 2 updates from the VSB at the DVSA today telling me that the review stage of my defect report was complete and Land rover have been given 28 days to respond to the concern and a request for me to retain the removed components incase they need to inspect them .

Can you give us the part numbers for the new Knuckles that was fitted to your L405 by Red Lion please!.

Or at least say if it was the "new" type with less shaved from the head area, some pics of the new knuckles fitted would help if not.

A lot of people are going to want to replace their "old" type i would imagine after reading all this, and if you can confirm some part numbers, pictures, and info to help people in the future know if the new type will fit and what to buy just as you yourself was asking to know.

Would be very helpful.

Thank you. 2014 L405 3.0 V6 Autobiography Santorini Black 49k

Does the 2013 SDV8 have the same issue / part fitted.
It seems that all the examples are for 2015 cars - which is strange unless the part changed in 2015? You would expect the 2013 / 14 models to have experienced the same issues sooner. SDV8 Vogue SE

Morning the part numbers that were fitted are LR146343 nearside and LR146341 offside and for some strange reason the offside was nearly £100 more expensive , i can't get to the cast markings on the new parts until next time the wheels are removed but on the old knuckles the markings were 3k186 nearside and 3k185 offside.
The new Knuckles fitted to my car look and measure to be the same as the old knuckles, i have not acctualy found any solid evidence that a new improved part exists that can be fitted.
I have only seen one picture on ebay of a 2018-2020 knuckle being advertised that looked like it had more meat at the top but that could have been the camera angle or just a random picture being used of a knuckle from another model of Land Rovel as they were a Land Rover breaker, until someone gets hold of one of these new improved knuckles if it exists and can show pictures of the new and old side by side and also get someone to confirm that all the steering and suspension geometry will stay exactly the same and Land rover approve it can be fitted i would say the parts LR146343 AND LR146341 should be fitted but that's just my opinion.
At no time during my original search for parts before all my parts were purchased from Land Rover using my vin number would anyone confirm different part numbers to LR146343 and LR146341 could be fitted.

I have only seen cases on 2015 vehicles and don't know anything about earlier or later cars.
Thanks

It would be interesting if someone could take a picture of their 2013 version (perhaps with the wheel turned to save removing it) and someone with say a 2018 or later model to see if there are any noticeable differences with what has been fitted to the 2015 model year. 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE
