Te he, no I had to thread the cable through the left hand rear tailgate rubber tube... This takes some wiring and the washer jet hose... So has the most room... šŸ‘

Yes, he installed his the day after I did... we obviously share pitfalls we have found...

Clearly I couldnā€™t cover this in every video he makes or It would be a full time job! And his videos would loose some of their honesty/charm! Thumbs Up

Other than an easy connection to the power supply, this kit LR dashcam doesnā€™t appear much different from the alternatives to fit, and the rear cam is still a PITA.

Iā€™d be interested in how you managed to route the cable through to the rear door. Here are are a are pics when I did it last year.

Phil, I took the same route as you through the rubber sleeve at the hinge point of the tailgate, however, I then removed the boot spoiler and fed the wire with the main loom across to the RHS of the tailgate. I then fed the wire down through the right side channel (again where the main loom runs) this is where my install slightly differs from yours Phil, the main loom exits into the void behind the boot light panel (the one you removed) I then drilled the panel installed a grommet for the wire to exit next to the camera position... IMHO it makes a slightly better install following the main loom across and down the RHS following the channel the loom takes. Then the wire is weather proof and you negate the need to drill the tailgate! šŸ‘

One other point Phil, this kit looks particularly factory installed as the shape follows the other parts in the screen area! 2nd point is, you then donā€™t have an expensive aftermarket looking Dashcam ready to pinch after launching a brick through the side window! After all you wouldnā€™t leave a Ā£200, Ā£300 or even Ā£600 mobile phone on the dash! That was one of the deciding aspects for me! And finally, in the case of a bump, your not hung out to dry when someone looks at your car screen and notices a Dashcam! As this kits front facing camera looks like another blind spot style or radar or cruise control factory fitted camera... šŸ‘

Thanks Craig. Sounds like a decent alternative to a BlackVue.

I was aware of the option to remove the boot spoiler but it was too big a job for me on my own. In the past Iā€™ve paid a fitter who managed to fit the same dashcam (front and rear) without removing the boot spoiler or drilling the tailgate. I donā€™t know how the hell he did it, and all in a couple of hours!

On my first MY15 L405 I managed to get the blackview to stay on for several hours after parking with the use of their battery monitor. I havenā€™t managed that on subsequent L405ā€™s because the battery voltage drops too quickly. Anyway, I parked up in an airport car park for a day and some scrote did try and smash the side window but didnā€™t manage to breakthrough. He obviously hadnā€™t spotted the dashcam because he kindly walked in front of the RR several times before attempting the break in. I passed this on to the police and they secured a conviction.

If you manage to find a solution that allows a dashcam to stay on for a period of time after parking Iā€™d be very interested in learning about it. MY23 D350 HSE

Phil, take a look at the instructions on JLRā€™s website as this kit has options when parked to be alerted with either GPS or GIRO etc etc, I know literally nowt about dash cams my friend... I bought this as we usually use this car for holidays and nice use so this is the one that does the most family miles, hence me thinking a dash cam may come in handy one day? And again for the security/theft reasons above... Iā€™m sure the information on their site may have some of the answers to some of the settings your looking for? šŸ‘

Itā€™s does appear to have a Parking Mode facility, which is excellent if it doesnā€™t drain the battery. From the instruction manual:

OPERATING MODES: PARKING MODE
Parking mode is activated one minute after the ignition is switched off. In ā€˜Radar and Gā€™ mode, the dashcam monitors surroundings as described in Recording Function. See 6, USING THE DASHCAM APP: RECORDING FUNCTION. A 20-second sequence is recorded if the G-sensor is triggered or if suitable motion is detected by the radar sensor. This includes 10 seconds previous to the triggering. A recording triggered by the G-sensor is saved in the "Event" folder. A recording triggered by motion is recorded in the "Parking" folder. MY23 D350 HSE

That would be great, thanks Craig.

Just out of interest, the cost of the BlackVue parking battery alone costs about the same as the new LR dashcam system! MY23 D350 HSE

Just wanted to come back with some thoughts after using the system for 2 weeks now... The first week was all about playing with settings and learning how to use the systems and then I have, I think? Now found the optimum setup for my usage... Week 2 i have left the car with a full battery (after leaving her on her JLR battery conditioner) from last Monday until today to see how the car battery would last. So, we had a meeting in Gloucester this afternoon. Went out to the car and opened it up and NO battery low message and she started just like normal... Yay! On the way to Gloucester, my good lady logged onto the app and saw that the only triggers this week have been posty and a couple of deliveries where the people have gotten close enough to start up the recording feature... So about 8 times rather than 80 the week before!!! Thumbs Up

That's a nice neat install the way they've wired that into the light.

I wonder if there's a reason they don't use the vision assist cameras and have a DVR in the car.

I like the look of this one. Looking at the app made me think itā€™s made by Thinkware. That not a bad thing as they make some of the best cameras.

But the housing looks very much tailored and looking at the layout Iā€™m thinking itā€™s actually the F200 in 2ch setup with adapted housing and mounting. And the external GPS antenna integrated in the front mount.

Does it have GPS?
Is the front 1080p but the rear 720p?

Although it could be an upgraded rear as the F200 allowed to attach different rear cameras.
