That’s a result.

Hopefully that’s all it is, as there shouldn’t be a problem getting that fixed under Warranty. I wouldn’t go starting it any more than needed, however the fact it does start could be reassuring.

An injector should be easily diagnosed with the plug-in at the dealer. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Fingers crossed, hope it all goes well.

Bit confused ....was it an AU car or not? Surely a franchised dealer cant sell a car without one? Otherwise whats the point in going to a main dealer?? all smug in my new plug!

Update

After 3 days Stratstone decided to get in touch with me, great service as always. Unfortunately they believe it is a failed Crankshaft.
They aren’t willing to fully diagnose the issue until I authorise a £1,200 diagnostics charge.

My first argument was that I had only driven 15,000 miles in the car and had it for just over a year, serviced at the required intervals by Stratstone themselves, it is not right that I should have to contribute anything towards a known issue. So they called the dealership I purchase the car from at Newport, who were unwilling to authorise the diagnosis payment.

They have spoken to the warranty company ‘Mapfre Abraxas’ which I was given with the car, they are unwilling to comment on whether or not they will approve the claim until the full diagnostics have been carried out.

I have now asked the gentlemen at Stratstone to get in touch with LR as it’s a known issue to see what their response is. I’ll update the forum as soon as I get any more information.

Anybody with any experience with this matter and had a successful engine replacement provided by LR as a goodwill gesture or any contribution or know anybody who have if you could let me know that would be really helpful.

I hope you get somewhere with this, but it does seem initial diagnoses were pretty close to the mark.

warranty companies get a bashing on the internet and Mapfre is has not avoided leaving some disgruntled customers out there. So beware....

I think your best port of call may be with LR customer services, have a look on the Disco forums as there may be more folk on there with successful replacements covered by and or assisted by LR.

As the warranty is not with CCP or LR, then the benefits of it being at a LR garage are smaller. Do you have a LR specialist nearby who could diagnose for less or could you call in an external engineer from Dekra or similar to diagnose and submit a report to the warranty co. Beware them sending out an assessor, they may well be biased.

https://www.dekra-uk.co.uk/en/engineer-s-report/

If it does come back that you can’t get payout, hopefully not but....then your best bet would be to get it to an Indy for an engine transplant, or better still bottom end of engine removal and see if what’s broke can be fixed, it may be that it’s still salvageable. Different kettle of fish but we just had the bottom end go on our perkins fork truck, that was mendable, if it not too badly damaged then it may be possible to replace the crank, big end bearings and the shells, for a lot less than a full engine. Though theres a possibility that’s wishful thinking....

Best outcome would be a new engine paid for by the warranty company, however you may have to work hard for that.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks for the advice. I’m hoping LR accept the issue and take into account where the car was purchased, low mileage and it’s full LR service history.

I do have a local LR specialist ‘Les Potts’ who could be the next port of call if I don’t get any further with LR, although I will go down all avenues before that as I believe as soon as I suggest that and roll over they will leave me high and dry, as they seem to have done on numerous occasions to many other unlucky folk.

I’ll also look into Dekra if that’s a possibility, fingers crossed LR come through this time, although I’m not feeling very optimistic I must say. Isn't that such a shame when you pay for a premium product, new or used!

If you don't get anywhere with Land Rover, give Joe a ring at Oval Autos. He did a 3.0 TDV6 rebuild for me on my RRS. He is forum sponsor on both the Disco and RRS sister sites.

I’d stick with the LR route for now and keep the assessments “LR MD clean”, particularly given you bought it as low mileage from an AU franchise with arguably misrepresented AU branding purporting that it was being sold as AU; and even thereafter you were supplied with a warranty by said franchise and you used said franchise group to service it in accordance with LR service requirements. You might need to articulate things more fully, however, in conclusion, “In short Mr/Mrs MainDealer and Mr/Mrs LandRoverUK, I paid a premium to buy and maintain it from/ with you, all in good faith; and so what more would you reasonably expect me to do?”

So I'd carry on as you were MD clean as its been put......and in the background I'd get a valuation on the car as it stands with a broken engine, and just go straight to suing for "diminution"...essentially your loss figure.....sadly its all these bums understand which is litigation....trust me Ive tried to have "reasonable" conversations and it goes nowhere even with a lawyers letter!! I hope for you it's not the case, but I'd have 2 streams of action to avoid time wasting.

terrible it has to be this way.....best of luck mate. all smug in my new plug!

OP : dreadful position to be in , these engines need fresh high spec oil every 5k if not even more frequent . How many miles since your last service and how many miles in total . I use Shell af-L and it goes in looking pure and 4 or 5K it comes out looking and feeling like dirty paraffin .

These guys in Rochdale look to be the experts in sorting it out if you can't get anywhere with LR ?

Had a quick look, most of their work seems to be on BMW's, guess they're not the Ultimate Driving machine after all.

Stratstone came back to me today, I’m guessing they have had the response from LR but had forgotten to relay the information onto myself as I had a response within half an hour of an mail I sent asking for an update.

LR have offered to pay 40% of the cost of a replacement engine, I asked the service advisor how much would that leave me with, his response was 60%, which I must admit even in the current situation did make me chuckle a little. I then asked 60% of what, as they have still not given me an estimation on the cost of a replacement engine, any auxiliaries and fitting and I was promised that I would have this sent to me by end of play this afternoon, which obviously hasn’t happened, I no longer listen to promises from Stratstone.

To be fair to LR, I got in touch with their customer relations dept. with a case number, expressed my dissatisfaction with the 40% offer and asked if they could give me a reason as to why they could only cover 40% of the cost. They passed my comments over to the relevant dept. and about 40 minutes later a gentlemen called back who was my case manager and is going to review the offer by looking at all aspects (not sure why this wouldn’t be done originally) and come back to me, hopefully to pay 100% (wishful thinking).

Stratstone won’t provide me with a courtesy car, firstly due to COVID 19 restrictions, now because they are struggling to tax their new fleet due to emissions laws?? Not sure how true this is, however the service advisor did first tel me I wouldn’t be getting a courtesy car as any works done to my car would be by LR as a goodwill gesture and no CC would be provided. I’m hoping they will solve the untaxable fleet issue and provide me with a car as I’m struggling at the moment with lifts and use of the misses car when she isn’t in work!

Well this could be a result.

Will be great if LR offer to pay it all, as you say it maybe wishful thinking, but you can always hope. Remember at the end of all this you will end up with a car with a brand new engine, which should give some piece of mind.

I’m sure there was a costing somewhere on here for a new engine but I can’t remember where....

Edit... It was on Ryan’s thread. Mikey posted up that LR were quoting £22k to replace D4 engines, and Mikey was pricing it at £15k. The engines alone were aparently 12k.

Could be different now as that’s a couple of years ago. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Update

Stratstone have come back to me. The 60% remaining for me to pay would total £7300, I’m still waiting to hear back from Land Rover.
