After 3 days Stratstone decided to get in touch with me, great service as always. Unfortunately they believe it is a failed Crankshaft.

I hope you get somewhere with this, but it does seem initial diagnoses were pretty close to the mark.

Thanks for the advice. I’m hoping LR accept the issue and take into account where the car was purchased, low mileage and it’s full LR service history.

If you don't get anywhere with Land Rover, give Joe a ring at Oval Autos. He did a 3.0 TDV6 rebuild for me on my RRS. He is forum sponsor on both the Disco and RRS sister sites.

I’d stick with the LR route for now and keep the assessments “LR MD clean”, particularly given you bought it as low mileage from an AU franchise with arguably misrepresented AU branding purporting that it was being sold as AU; and even thereafter you were supplied with a warranty by said franchise and you used said franchise group to service it in accordance with LR service requirements. You might need to articulate things more fully, however, in conclusion, “In short Mr/Mrs MainDealer and Mr/Mrs LandRoverUK, I paid a premium to buy and maintain it from/ with you, all in good faith; and so what more would you reasonably expect me to do?” |

So I'd carry on as you were MD clean as its been put......and in the background I'd get a valuation on the car as it stands with a broken engine, and just go straight to suing for "diminution"...essentially your loss figure.....sadly its all these bums understand which is litigation....trust me Ive tried to have "reasonable" conversations and it goes nowhere even with a lawyers letter!! I hope for you it's not the case, but I'd have 2 streams of action to avoid time wasting.

OP : dreadful position to be in , these engines need fresh high spec oil every 5k if not even more frequent . How many miles since your last service and how many miles in total . I use Shell af-L and it goes in looking pure and 4 or 5K it comes out looking and feeling like dirty paraffin .

Had a quick look, most of their work seems to be on BMW's, guess they're not the Ultimate Driving machine after all. |

Stratstone came back to me today, I’m guessing they have had the response from LR but had forgotten to relay the information onto myself as I had a response within half an hour of an mail I sent asking for an update.

Stratstone have come back to me. The 60% remaining for me to pay would total £7300, I’m still waiting to hear back from Land Rover. |
