Thanks Mike, I remember GraemeS posted some dimensions, I'll have a hunt.
I've not found any soot, around mine I just think could be the usual suspects...
I do smell a faint diesel exhaust whiff in the engine bay though...
. Cheers, Greg

Found it:

GraemeS: I made my own intake hoses from 70mm ID black silicone hose - each 55mm long. I re-used the original clamps.

Bit of an update guys, yesterday I got an additional code:

P006A-00 (27)

in addition to the original P1247-00 (27)

So back to the workshop manual which says:

P1247-00 =

Turbocharger Boost Pressure Low - No sub type information =

Turbocharger actuator jammed =

a) If this DTC is logged with P00BC-00, suspect compressor recirculation valve (CRV) stuck open. If this DTC is logged with P00BE-00, suspect boost air solenoid (CSOV) stuck closed

b) Check Turbocharger actuator jammed. Check and install Turbocharger actuator. Refer to the Warranty Policy and Procedures manual, or determine if any prior approval programme is in operation, prior to the installation of a new module/component

Action plan:

Could be a donut hose, although I've not got any obvious signs. I do have the older hoses so I'll look at swappng those. First I want do a smoke test and just test the lot. So I've ordered a smoke test machine, which will also test the vacuum lines. This way I can check donut hoses, general connections, and inlet manifold. Right?
(I think so - as long as I open the throttle body?)

Plus it's not just from a boost leak POV (1247-00 code, low boost) I can also check the vacuum lines, which are of particular interest because of the operation of the change over valve.

On the CSOV, although I can feel back and forth movement in the rod, I plan to remove the valve and check and clean it. If it's gunked inside it could have a slight flap leak. I'll separately test the vacuum actuator operation.

Then, speaking of flap leakage and gunk, I'll whip off the throttle body and clean and check that too.

And, thanks to Nino I'll also be checking the turbo actuator arm, didn't get a chance this weekend. Although I am hearing several loud clicks just as the starter motor fires. Not sure as Nino you were saying that should be on ignition on.

Please let me know any thoughts, I'll most likely have to wait till the weekend to execute the action plan so time to chat!

. Cheers, Greg

Greg,
Presumably you have read this in WM, but ....

Rolling with laughter Nino’s theory says.... if you see a sensor... clean it.

Partial update, might be onto something:

So I hook up the smoke machine, great little bit of kit.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B074JM...&psc=1

- it's got a load of adaptors, cones, blanking plugs etc. You just pour a bit of baby oil in it, hook it up to 12v and nearly straight away it starts pumping smoke.

Whip the LH (primary) air intake pipe elbow off the air cleaner and in it goes via a a big rubber cone which wedges into the intake pipe.. While it's filling I'm looking around any hose and mainly the four donut hoses. Nothing. Keep the smoke coming. Look around more. Get underneath. No escaping smoke.

Wondering if I need to open the turbo actuator so the smoke gets through, also the same for the throttle body. Having a look at what needs to come off to remove the throttle body...

Something's not right. Hose into the throttle body at a slightly off angle. This is the black hose that come off the top of the intercooler. Metal retaining clip looks funny too.

Clip's lost it's mojo. Allowing the pipe to dislodge. Not fully. But here's me looking for a cause of lost boost. A cracked or split hose. And I find a poor hose connection. Have I found it? Maybe. But
Why no smoke escaping?

Bent the clip to a better state and refitted the hose. 2 min job. But I want to do some further checks before a test drive.

I really do think this could be it but had to stop play so bonnet's closed for a bit. Will be back on it later and will post another update this evening.

Last weekend whilst driving it on Restricted Performance, the Yellow DPF light came on Big Cry
I did 30 miles foolishly, and I checked soot before I set off at 14g but that 30 miles on restricted filled my soot to over 23g.

(This could have actually been too much o2 from the loose pipe.)

So it's a bit complicated / risky taking a test drive if I'm not confident I can't clear this restricted error as I may fill my DPF to a red giving be double trouble.

. Cheers, Greg

proof if it were needed of the North/South divide - this is my smoke tester, us impoverished Northerners can't afford to buy luxuries like a smoke leak detector.
This is mine, and it works!

Except you've got a fancy compressor hooked up to your tin cass. !

Bloody luxury that! Razz

The thing I bought has a little compressor in-built meaning it's full stand-alone.

Thumbs Up Cheers, Greg

Ok I did further smoke tests, CSOV and pretty confident it was the loose intercooler to throttle body pipe as mentioned earlier.

Test drive didn't last long as DPF went to RED Big Cry Big Cry

In the brief drive I had, there was no spluttering. But wasn't enough time to completely call it done.

I knew it would cause me grief, whilst it was still YELLOW as I set off, the soot was 27.5g

Now to deal with this RED DPF..... Which is a right pain. Switching chat over on the DPF thread.

Will update this post once I've dealt with that .

. Cheers, Greg

And this one is: SOLVED.
Surprised

I've cleared my red DPF and that's another story but enabled me to test drive and confirm the leaking intercooler -> throttle body pipe was the culprit.

So anyone with this code(s) should check pipework for cause of lost boost.

Kinda proves to me that the WM's guy to error codes isn't all that , pointing me to other places like the turbo actuator but I'd recommend following the logic of an error code. In my case the code was correct, I just had to find the loss (leak).

Interestingly my smoke test didn't pick the dislodged pipe up. Maybe not enough pressure in that Autel yellow smoke machine? Or maybe a smoke check should be carried out at various points along the pipes to make sure the smoke is getting past any flap vales. (Not sure, my first smoke test).

Cheap fix; aside of the cost of the smoke machine, price = nil .

Thanks all for chipping in too. Cheers, Greg

Old thread I know, but it's helped me! Same symptoms, I opened the bonnet with dread this morning.

...to find the hose off the front of the throttle body!

I hope it had just worked loose and not been blown off somehow!

Cheers GGDR!
