Greg, if you have vacuum pump /hand brake bleeder pump/ you can check if the valve is working ok. 2012 TDV8 Black Edition

Rolling with laughter bit of a sore point Nino, Greg and vacuum pumps, but I would suggest, if it is old design with nut on top, just remove nut, or at least undo it to the top of the thread so that you can try levering it up a bit to work in plenty of WD 40.

Ok front undertray off (geez a lot of bolts on that front one, only three for the middle one for oil changes)
Got a bolt on my CSOV, sprayed it - and tried to feel for lateral movement on the rod, I.e rod back and forth like a piston,
Is that correct?

But I can pull it a fair way and it snaps back.

Just reading the manual, is it me or do they call that same valve different things:

Manual, Diagnostic Trouble Codes:
- Turbine Intake Solenoid Valve TSOV
- Boost air solenoid CSOV

Manual, Engine Turbocharger:
- Charge Air Inlet Valve

TSB
- Compressor Shut Off Valve CSOV

Is it all the same valve? I think so. Cheers, Greg

I have definitely misunderstood what the valve does.
I was always under the belief that it opened when the engine calls for the 2nd turbo, ie about 2500 RPM.
Failure to open gives restricted performance alarm then ??

If you believe it is moving correctly, then you can only clear the fault code and see if it reappears .

It's a maze of plumbing alright:



1 Air filter RH
2 Manifold Absolute Pressure and Temperature (MAPT) sensor (2 off)
3 Air filter LH
4 Charge air cooler
5 Throttle
6 Compressor shut-off valve
7 Recirculation valve
8 Engine
9 Variable vane turbocharger
10 Catalytic Converter
11 Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)
12 Turbine shut-off valve
13 Fixed vane turbine

Fresh air is drawn through the air filter and the MAF (mass air flow) meter to the primary turbocharger compressor. The compressed air is then passed through the charge air cooler and into the engine.

The turbine shut-off valve on the secondary turbocharger is closed and therefore exhaust gasses are unable to operate the secondary turbocharger turbine. In this condition all turbo charging boost pressure is produced by the primary turbocharger using exhaust gasses from all 8 cylinders, giving exceptional response.

Trying to get my head around this valve myself.
Especially trying to understand the difference/significance of 6 and 7
Why two names? Weird

Nino you had yours off was that just to clean it because you clean everything?

Ok makes a bit more sense now that I'd been staring at it for bit....

Mike your original description is correct according to this:

The Primary turbo blows straight into the intercooler. SO it's weird I am having problems at very low speed. Assuming the error code and workshop manual direction is correct.

Ok back to the code actions form the WM:

P1247-00 =

Turbocharger Boost Pressure Low - No sub type information =

Turbocharger actuator jammed =

a) If this DTC is logged with P00BC-00, suspect compressor recirculation valve (CRV) stuck open. If this DTC is logged with P00BE-00, suspect boost air solenoid (CSOV) stuck closed

b) Check Turbocharger actuator jammed. Check and install Turbocharger actuator. Refer to the Warranty Policy and Procedures manual, or determine if any prior approval programme is in operation, prior to the installation of a new module/component


No I don't have P1247-00 +P00BC-00 or P00BE-00
I just have P1247-00.

So must be Turbocharger actuator. Wondering which turbo. Probably primary, although it doesn't say.

Now I need to find find this Turbocharger actuator....
