You'd have the same mirror if you had the rain sensor - it's just the cover around the base that's different.

There was a post in one of the German Bimmer forums on retrofitting a rain sensor/auto wipers. It requires a sensor, a new mirror base cover and, theoretically, a new windscreen Shocked although the difference seems to be simply the black masking around the sensor. The poster in the forum painted this on his windscreen... All of this is possible, but then you need the BCM re-coded for auto wiping. And this seems to be more than the average LR dealer can do....

Thanks Steve,

Are the bits you spoke about (other than new screen) easily obtainable and not too expensive do you know? Would I need a new wiper stalk or any other gadgetry to get this working.? Might as well go the whole hog and get auto lights whilst I'm at it.!! Shocked

I have a very good chap that should be able to code the auto functions for me so no worries there.

Still the outstanding issue that Dan raised is that these shoul dhave been standard ona 54 plate Vogue. I guess the purchaser could have "de-specced" them when he ordered.? Ash

I believe everything else is the same (no guarantees, tho). I don't know how much a sensor is - I'd look at the breakers for a sensor/mirror base cover if it's very expensive new. You'll need to make sure the loom is there or you'll need to add that too (split the base cover and check for a 4(?) pin plug. And you'll need a new mounting pad for the sensor (the purple part that sticks to the screen). If that's not avail at the dealers, I'd check autoglass shops.

I also have a 54 plate Vogue, and both the automatic wipers and automatic lights do not appear to work, see thread http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic4473.html?highlight=automatic .

I have changed the sensor behind the mirror at a cost of £45 (which as it was a special order was non returnable) this made no difference at all it appears to me that the automatic part has bee switched off is this possible ?

its possible that a reboot of all the ecu's is required ..try disconnecting the battery for at least an hour or so and see if that helps... ... - .- -.

Right - It appears I don't have this option on my 54 plate Vogue (even though it should have been standard).

Does the extra mirror base containing the sensors come as part of a new screen or part to fit to the mirror base. Can I buy this part seperately.?

I think I need a new screen soon anyway due to a crack and shall ask for one with heated element and light/rain sensor to make sure I get the right one.

Anything I need to know?

Thanks Ash

Well according to Dan it should be standard on a 54 vogue. Ii wonder if a previous had had the wrong screen fitted..??

Do you think there is a way to check what wiring I would need. I suppose I could remove the mirror and see if there is anything tucked away in there.? Clutching at straws I think but worth a look maybe.

Would be good to confirm if it was standard to then make an assumption that it would at least have the wiring in place.

edit: This seems to suggest it should have been standard although there are a couple of things I do have that were not (for the year) like heated rear seats.?

heated rear seats should be standard on a vogue, there are two buttons for this on the back of the center console.

just a thought, do you really need auto lights and wipers and if you had them would you use them..i say this because i dont use auto lights and rarely use auto wipers.. ... - .- -.

Don't think heated seats came in till Aug 04 according to the link,

Anyhow - Do I need auto lights/wipers - No. Would I like them - Yes. Have them on my CLK and I use them all the time. Probably coz I'm lazy and/or don't want to forget to turn the lights off..!

Also if they should be on there, I'd like them on there and working. Auto lights would be an upgrade as these wern't standard but as I'm going to be in there, might as well add them too.

So - Anyone know what parts I would need to buy (names at least) like RVM Sensor housing, Rain & Light sensors, Auto lights switch pack and new light switch.? Would that be about it and have I described them correctly? Ash

Don't mean to drag up an old thread but...

I'm getting the bits together for the upgrade now but want to ask one question... I currently have 1 large-ish plug coming from the headlining down to the mirror. It has about 8 wires I think. Is this the one and only plug I'll need for the light/rain sensors or should I be looking for another lead/wire somewhere?

Cool - thanks mate - I guess it's root around time to see what I can find. I know there was something like that behind the little mic cover in the console but that may be for .... Well..... the mic I guess!!

I'll have to drop the whole centre console to see what's in there i suppose.

Do you know if that's an easy job? Ash

hi, its the same as the mic plug...have you taken the roof consul down as you can see far better and then you wont damage the roof lining. its held in place by 2 screw's, unclip the lights/switches and remove and you will see the 2 screws behind, when its out you will find what you are looking for Very Happy V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.
