Just to follow up I've done about 60 miles with no lights on
The FF starts no probs steady tick over no hunting
Comes to a stop no hunting pulls off without hesitation defiantly quieter smoother
So for the minuets it's a Thumbs Up
Going to to a few more miles clear any faults and see which reappear
I did a bit of a write up and Stan has put it in the wiki
Any questions feel free and I'll do my best to answer
Cheers to ptroni who started this thread Bow down
Thumbs Up

England 2009 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Santorini Black

On a trip round the M25 this morning in my 2009 TDV8 when “engine system fault” comes up on the screen and it goes into limp mode, not good when in lane 4 on a busy morning! Managed to pull off without getting flattened by HGV’s, engine was ticking over fine, turned off and waited a few minutes then carried on and all seemed okay....until a little while later exactly the same thing happened so managed to get to an emergency bay on the Non Hard Shoulder section and waited to be recovered as I didn’t fancy liming along on the M25!!! No lights appeared, just the message, recovery guy said probably EGRs? How will I know and what’s the best course of action to sort it?
Any help and advice greatly appreciated!

As a first step check the intercooler hoses. Remove the engine cover (just pulls off) and you will see the top ones. Inspect them carefully for splits. John

This was posted on another forum in relation to deleting the EGR’s.
“Iwould recommend repairing or replacing the EGR and keeping it all stock. If you blank the EGR, then you will radically change the turbo gas flow and that is more likely to kill the turbos. I would also avoid tune ups, as the engine and gearbox are close to their design limits already. Non stock mods will work for a while but will reduce the overall life of the power train. The 3.6 meets EU4 and DPF was an expensive option, mainly specified in Germany, so very few UK cars have them fitted, which is one less thing to go wrong.
I was responsible for the engine control software design on the V6 and V8 engines at Ford from 2000-2008. The EGR is normally closed at higher load and speed but the VGT position with EGR active is deliberately quite closed to force EGR flow. If you block the EGR, you risk pushing the compressors into surge when you step in. We damaged several turbos this way when we were calibrating the air path diagnostics to detect.
really It depends on how the mapping is done. EGR flow is about 50% at lower loads and so blocking the EGR off can double the turbine flow. As the boost runs in open loop when the EGR is active, the turbos can overspeed or surge. It is possible to remap the vane set points to open up the vanes as well as disabling the EGR diagnostics but it makes much more sense to keep everything stock as it was designed to be. It's a lot Cheaper and more robust!!”
Seems to make logical sense to me.
The way I read it, ok to delete the EGR’s if you also get a good remap that resolves the Turbo surge issue!! 2010 TDV8 3.6 Galway Green

Just do it, I had new turbos last year and still running a higher bhp than most have done and blanked egr 8 months ago, there’s opinions everywhere but I know I’m happy and the sluggish standard ones I’ve been in are a bit different and not for me 😉 _____________________________________________________

Got me head scratching
As far as my limited knowledge is I thought turbos were free running so no matter if you have or have not egrs deleted bypassed or in place the engine will only suck in the amount of air it needs
I know there are actuators and the like but it thought they controlled the exhaust gas flow depending on the throttle being opened up for more power allowing the car to have turbo boost
I am probably wrong Thumbs Up

Is your FFRR a model after 2006?
Did you have to re-map or do any programming?
Can you tell me what kit you used?

Yes 2007
No programming and RR was already mapped a few years ago.
Used the standard kit you see on the bay around £35.
No issues as all previous have said and slightly better pickup and running, had new turbos and egrs last year at 145k so not worried for a long while now hopefully Thumbs Up _____________________________________________________

I’ve just ordered the delete kit. Is there any way of turning off the software using IID or is it definitely a remap?

Lastly - the post above about leaving it all stock. Hard to know what is right. Delete or leave on.

What are people’s long term experiences with deleting?

Your can use the IID to apply a BAS EGR delete patch but you the IID itself has no capability in respect of blanking EGRs. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate
