The Bournemouth trip was at 02:30 this morning, keeping between 60 - 70 mph (nearer 60 than 70). Its impressive for a big motor, love it. BMW i3 Electric Car

Mines done 24.4mpg, 2012, tdv8, calculated rather than what the car says ,normally 10% over. That's over 12k miles, Texaco fuel, includes 2k of towing between 1t and 2.8t, driven reasonably hard 70% of time. Cheers

Recently drove Cambridge to the midlands in my 4.4 petrol/LPG. I tanked up in Cambridge and then again as soon as I got home, the actual mpg on LPG was 18.5mpg (driving at 70mph).

I used to run a 4.2 classic on LPG and it is pretty good when the cost of fuel is considered, the 4.4 TDV8 is however also silky smooth (well it is in my opinion), fuel available everywhere, no loss of boot space (my LPG truck had tanks underneath but many dont and you dont have a potential bomb on board. In the unlikely event of a crash and a fire I would not want me asnd my family in a LPG powered vehicle, that was the reason I got rid of my first rangie. I know all about the pressure relief valves venting the gas and the tanks being very strong, if however there was a fire, its not good. BMW i3 Electric Car

AJ no offence but what you have just said about LPG tanks being a potential bomb is complete crap. Plenty of tests have been done (and are available to see online) which prove that LPG tanks are not only much safer than petrol tanks but they are able to withstand massive impacts without exploding.

Hi Knightrider, no offence taken but if you think LPG is safer than petrol or diesel you too are talking crap. LPG is under pressure, it is far more likely to leak when physical damage takes place if you dont believe me Im quite happy to stand near a fire and put a nail into a fuel can containing diesel, you have to do the same if you really believe what you claim with a camping gaz cylinder. I doubt you would take the challenge we all know there would be a huge fire from it and potentially serious injury. I accept totally the gas tanks are very strong but impacts in a crash can also be severe, you would have to be unlucky. You mentioned online, heres a few for you, remember I have run LPG in the past but after looking into the aspects of it decided it was not a fuel for my future on health and safety grounds and I did not wish to endanger my family for the sake of a few pence in fuel costs.

AJ did you actually bother to watch any of those links you sent?? The only one out of those that is definitely without doubt a auto LPG incident is the one where the guy in Belgium fills up moments before the explosion. One of those clips you sent you can clearly see the gas explosion is from the house not a car and the other videos there is no evidence to show they were due to auto LPG.

Knightrider, if you look at my first mention of LPG I acknowledged that the tanks were strong, the relief valves were present etc. I know one of the video's was a house but they all had compressed gas involved. If you consider risk assessments from an engineering point of view as soon as compressed gas is involved it instantly becomes more dangerous it simply has to do. My comment about saving a few pence is with reference to comparing it to a 4.4 V8 diesel which can get to around 38 mpg in my case so in terms of cost per mile youre looking at 13.3p per mile on your LPG, I pay 15.6p per mile on my diesel - a few pence difference.
