Sorry to hear you have got problems.
I would print out this entire topic and take it with you to the dealers.
Are you still within the 2 year LR Approved Warranty period?. If so it might be a blessing in disguise to get it sorted under warranty.
Mine run out last June and I fear it is only a matter of time until I suffer a similar failure.

still under warranty Mike but i cant get it booked with a loan car till the end of march.

i think my next move is to positively identify the leak and if it is the oil feed pipe i'll have a go myself [with help from son probably]

so can anyone tell the best place to get a couple of oil seals [bs611?] rather a batch of ten from ebay.. ... - .- -.

I have been here for a week now and temp each day 20-21c with no rain at all, but yesterday was a bit cloudy and a cool breeze coming in off the sea whilst we were walking the coastal path in the morning.

With the bonnet lid vertical in the service position and the air box removed ( 2x 13mm nuts) it is fairly easy to see the pipe with a mirror and torch. I have checked mine 3 times, but thankfully dry each time.

thats what the LR chap did Mike but he didnt use any mirrors to see properly and i didnt want to 'infringe' on his inspection..

i'll get some oil seal rings first just in case i can get my zimmer frame up onto the engine bay to have a look..

@G, LR assist chap said the westie was drivable so it was up to me to get it into the dealer hence the long wait for a loan car..sounds like you were lucky with your one.. ... - .- -.

I'am willing to bet a pound -main dealer calls a crack in the oil cooler, and +/- 1000 big ones. if they do, ask them to save your old cooler.

if you decide to do it yourself and replace two gaskets and O rings cost is 20 pounds and 3 hour labour and knowledge of job well done. so go for it Stan, you know you can do this.
