Normally you can just pull it off.

i should have said dip stick tube, Apparently its held in with a nut or bolt, 9mm spanner but how do I get to it.

got it out thanks, aq bit of friendly Persuasion RR 2005 4.4 petrol

I got mine out with a bit of friendly persuasion, it was getting it back in that was probably the hardest part of my timing chain and vanos rebuild |

I was watching a video last week, the guy, at the end of the video said, you cant use Chinese cam timing tools because it will show up as a fault.

Looking at the timing chain guides on ebay, it looks like the left one is all plastic, anyone know if a metal based one is available RR 2005 4.4 petrol

They are all aluminum backed plastic, i used febi bilstein ones in mine.

i made some retaining blocks out of tubing and an old spark plug, not that i needed to, i just did.

i see, so they do have a retaning clamp

They do but i don't think most people use them as they don't come with the cheap timing kits.
