Move the mirror selector button on the driver door panel to nearside mirror door adjustment. It's a feature to aid parking at the kerb. You can select it using the button. John

Fit the secondary battery today, Hopefully no more flat batteries for quite a while, although I'm 320 euros worse off now.

Collected my new-to-me ff from the indy following a rad blow. One new rad and hoses, spare key, battery, balance hose, gas plugs, alternator, bonnect release handle, four discs, all oils, all filters and full service later I am considerably poorer but happy 😀
Now to save up for a gas kit.
At least I know it won’t break down now. No. Surely not. It won’t, will it?
Will it??

Changed the o/s rear cv joint and gaiter due to the boot being split and failing the mot.

And made a start on replacing the rear brake lines thanks to joe90’s how to just can’t get an Allen key to fit the cover on the n/s to expose the lines. May have to snap them off some how!

Took a bunch of stuff to the office, filled her up at the Shell garage on the way home and procrastinated about whacking a load of hide feed into the interior. I'll probably do that tomorrow.

Did three trips totalling fifty miles with no messages or failures. Loved it! Then a side light failed. Oh well, fault free driving is getting closer.
Is that what FFRR stands for - Fault Free Range Rover?

Gave it a wash and a coat of wax, the bonnet and roof really need going over with the DA polisher but didn’t have time today as the wife’s Disco needed a wash.

Also discovered the puddle lights on the mirrors don’t work Sad gives me something to do I suppose

Tried the heated steering wheel, first time for me, excellent! Switched on the heated seat which momentarily stopped the hvac before the seat heater switched off after 1 second and the hvac then recovered. Tried again with repeatable result. Has it anything to do with having the hvac wiring harness mod last week? Trapped wire or a tap into the wrong circuit? Hmmm...

Washed it, clayed it, machine polished it and waxed it. It took 5 hours with a friend helping me. Quite an improvement - it looks like we polished the blue out of it Whistle

Called into the indie, it is the harness causing the seat heater trouble. Driver seat heater on causes repair harness relay to change over and kills feed to a/c head unit, then relay re-energises. Remove the relay and seat heater works but battery will drain. He’s calling tech for an opinion.

Took her for our first long drive together. A 258 mile round trip to the north bank of the Thames Estuary and back for work.

The weather was pretty dire as we set out at 05:15 this morning, and none too warm, so i had the heated steering wheel and seats on for a few minutes. The traffic was backing up a little down the M1, so we didn't make very good progress, and I was a little put out that we couldn't stay on the Cruise Control for very much of the drive down. Parking her up at the other end, I felt sad at how dirty she now looked, with streaks of dried road water down her flanks and bonnet, the tailgate was pretty terrible too. The headlights had done a good job of piercing the dark and dismal morning, so at least I arrived knowing what had been in front of me.

I finished the visit earlier than anticipated, and I found myself back on the M25 driving north in dry but cloudy times. The drizzle came and went, but at least the road was clearer and we were able to stick the CC on at 60 and purr home. Classic FM on in the background, and the reassuring thrum of her 3.6 V8, I found myself talking to the car. Thanking her for the traffic updates from the Sat Nav, and encouraging her with a gentle "there we go sweetheart, time to go" when we pulled out from behind a slow lorry and i hit "Resume" on the steering wheel.

I'm not sure how, but I've ended up giving her a name (I've never named ANY of my cars before), and feeling like as long as she has good maintenance and gentle attention, she won't let me down. Did Land Rover build these cars with a soul?
