Australia

I ordered a replacement rain sensor from the UK. But as I was going away camping interstate for a couple of weeks, I decided to fit a new main battery which would better match the new batteries in the second battery installation.

On the trip, it started to rain and the old rain sensor started working and worked properly for the whole trip. Gahhhhh!

When I got home, the sensor ordered from the UK had arrived. I don't need it now. Laughing

When I checked for faults with Faultmate, the RLS failure was gone and no faults were recorded.

It seems these L322s are also voltage sensitive Ron B. VK2OTC

The rain sensor is quite tricky. My screen was replaced and a 'supposed' genuine screen was fitted with heating element etc, but no, it's not a genuine Land Rover product. No sensor was fitted so the clowns tried to refit mine. Clearly that wasn't going to work. So I'm at present trying to locate an optically clear silicon adhesive pad to replace the sensor to the screen properly.

Hey Ron,

Seems like I'm stalking you eh. I found a place in Melbourne this morning that have the correct Euro manufactured gel adhesive sensor pads so have ordered that. Now just need to come up with a plan to mount it perfectly, one shot with no air bubbles and also to line up the little red dot with the hole.

Fingers crossed I won't need to calibrate it................!!

I have some software and a cable for the L322 but haven't seen anything in there to calibrate that sensor at all. Just basic things like code clear and suspension adjust.

Success!

Removed the rubbish second hand silicon from the rain sensor and replaced it with a 3m VHB pad material. Refitted it and the rain sensitive system works again. No calibration required.

Good news, Rob.

I don't know what calibration does. Ron B. VK2OTC

I was a bit bothered. Lot of opinions out there.

I read somewhere that if you pull the plug at the sensor that it works as per normal intermittent wipers but with no rain sensors. It doesn't!
Turn them on and it sweeps once every 7 seconds. That's it though.

Then someone else said dont turn ignition on when module is not connected as it will lose calibration. Seems to be rubbish also. Car had this dodgy silicon on the sensor for 8 months and never worked, change the pad and now works fine.

I'm still at a loss as to what the little red round spot actually does though. Any ideas?

We put a plank across two arms of the hoist and the wife hopped up there, then drove the car under the plank so she was sitting at the top of the screen and then she was able to guide my whilst I placed the sensor to ensure we got that little red spot exactly in the centre of the cutout hole. Worked a treat.

Yep, got it. That damn red dot. to get my dot in the hole the rest of the sensor had to be offset by 7mm! Useless blokes that made the aftermarket windshield obviously got the placement wrong. So I took a punt that the red dot was more important than 100% sensor placement.

Yes, the screen clear dot was offset on mine, too, so I used my Dremel to abrade away some of the mask to align with the sensor red dot.

I suspect (but not having a later L322 to check) that the screen dot matches the Ford (or other) rain sensor on later cars.

There are different screens for different VIN ranges. The following are only for windscreens with rain sensors:

CMB000180 - (GLASS - WINDSCREEN WITH RAIN SENSOR) [ to - (V)2A103779 ]

CMB500030 - (GLASS - WINDSCREEN WITH RAIN SENSOR) [ (V)2A103780 - (V)4A149372 ]

CMB500490 - (GLASS - WINDSCREEN WITH RAIN SENSOR) [ (V)4A149373 - (V)4A999999 ]

CMB500491 - (GLASS - WINDSCREEN WITH RAIN SENSOR) [ (V)5A000001 - (V)6A999999 ]

There's more but rain sensor is not specified so maybe they all have rain sensors.

Mine should have CMB500030. Ron B. VK2OTC

Ah, so the later cars share the same windscreen, and things may have changed under Ford / Jaguar / Tata ownership. Interesting.

It would seem so and I'd bet O'Briens Glass only carries one of them. Ron B. VK2OTC

Just had mine done by National Windscreens.

Requested Pilkington but got XYG fitted Mad

Spoke to insurance 'glass repair line' who confirmed they could see my request.

Told to call local National Windscreens branch.

Speaking to the manager he said the request was there, just wrong glass ordered. For which he apologised.

Is ordering Pilkington one and will get it fitted as soon as it arrives.

Can't complain too much as at least the - temporary xyg - windscreen isn't cracked. What do I put here then?
