A quick question, guys:

What's the difference between the standard windscreen and the 'climate control windscreen'??? Regards,
Mick

I've just arranged online to have mine replaced by Autoglass and having requested a genuine screen in so much as Pilkington, they have just called me to say it wont be genuine, they don't know who its manufactured by or where and as such, I've cancelled it.
It begs the question where a body/suspension & general accident damage repair starts and ends when it comes to genuine parts.
Damn you AXA. Big Cry

Unnecessary quote removed

It's what you signed for when you accepted your insurance proposal.

Most people seek out the cheapest deal, and this plays right into the hands of the industry.

Well, I can now breath easy, the windscreen doesn't leak, the heating works much better than the replaced glass and as for noise I can't tell other than no whistles etc at speed. Also its nice to look through glass that doesn't have all the signs of age, a few stone marks, wiper blade patterns etc Very Happy

It is slightly different from the original LR screen, but different not worse.

All for a hundred quid, we done eSure and Autoglass Thumbs Up Geoff

Well national windscreens came out and replaced the screen this morning with a Pilkington one which looked identical save the Land Rover logo, to the existing one.

They did 2 things.

1. They said that it wasn't the original screen and had historically been replaced by an LR dealer. They could tell as it was Censored in so much as the workmanship.
2. They snapped the offside wiper arm! On closer inspection, he was adamant that they were cheap monkey metal and it isn't the first time he's done it! To be fair, they were good about it (as you would expect) so I've got the passenger one on the drivers said. Is this legal if it rains?

It doesn't rain but it pours - pun intended!

I had a new screen fitted today, to help others the story goes like this;

I called Autoglass for the £75.00 screen and arranged a time etc. Then when it was confirmed and so I had it in writing I emailed them stating I wanted a Pilkington winsdcreen, acoustic etc and if it wasn't as such I would turn the fitters away. They quickly phoned and said they could only fit what the distributor supplied them all of which were to spec.
At this point I simply advised I could go to any windscreen company I wished and it was Pilkington or nothing, she repeated what she said earlier and the call ended.

The Two vans today arrived and after saying hello I asked if I could view the screen and he replied " no need Mr Welsby we specified a Pilkington screen as requested".

They did a superb job, fitted brand new A post covers ( std they said as the clips break) and away they went after telling me I had a lifetime guaranty.

So push for a Pilks screen and you will get one. Many thanks
Paul

I got a Pilkington screen without trying (still not sure if its acoustic as there is no "ear" symbol). However I hadn't noticed that they did break one of my wiper arms (one of the two prongs that keep the blade under the arm) I told them and they said they would have to order one from JLR and pop round and fit it - can't fault them - Autoglass. Geoff

Said it before, but will say it again.

1. its definitely a 2 man job.
2. get a Pilkington screen or tell them to sod off.
3. don't let them fob you off with anything else by another manufacturer.
4. Autoglass seem to be good at it having done mine well and several others on here and seem to know the score.
5. autoglass seem to be most insurers preference.
6. £75 is cheap if your heated screen doesn't work and you have a hammer to hand...... Whistle
7. At the end of the day it is down to the fitters, if they are rubbish the job will be too. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hi I don't know a lot but learned a little to cover my bum.

Older ones had the logo on, newer the dash 1 I was told.

I asked another windscreen company a price and was quoted £578 which seemed cheap to me but I don't know what Autoglass charged my insurers. Many thanks
