I decided to pull the antenna out to see if I could modify the case. I opened it up (and the one that came with the ULF I bought from Lukie). The two antennas (antennae?) are very slightly different in that the ULF Bluetooth antenna metal bit is slightly smaller (higher frequency?).

The new antenna. I might have to cut away the plastic on the bottom left corner to allow the right-angle connector to lay flat.





The plastic locking ring can be rotated to fit the right-angle connector but it is very tight - as if the dimensions of each end connector are different. I can grind off some of the plastic antenna housing to get clearance for the right-angle connector.

I just moved the pins needed to the new connector, old ones still in the old connector.

I don't remember having an issue with the antenna cable.

I drilled a new hole to mount the ULF at the top, and used a rubber grommet at the bottom to stop it vibrating.

I did see that grommet in one of your(?) photos.

Some cables appear to be straight at both ends.

Yes, I'll be moving the pins to the new connector, too.

I'm now trying to remove the Siemens phone eject box. It's a bit of a mongrel to pull apart. Ron B. VK2OTC

I've added a few pics to my previous posts.

I had a look at each of the connectors on the antenna cable, and it can't be swapped end-for-end. The locating pins are different. The antenna end will go onto the ULF but the ULF end won't fit the antenna. See below. (Sorry about the dirty fingers, I had to wrestle the cable out of the sticky loom.)

Some butchery will be needed.

I've modified the BT antenna connector by filing off one of the alignment pins. I also modded the plastic case so the cable will lay flat. They now plug together nicely.







I've repinned using a new connector. Actually, I think that was a mistake. It would have been neater and easier to remove the unwanted wires and to have slipped some heatshrink over the pins and to then move the remaining pins about. I may yet remove the old connector and heatshrink the pins so that I can tidy it up.

What I now need to clarify are slight differences between this:

Some colours don't match nor do some pins. It doesn't matter which of 24, 33, 34, or 42 (all brown/black) are moved to 36 as those four are connected together.


Old 2, top diagram moves it to pin 11, lower diagram to 32.
Old 17, my wire is Blue/Brown, not Black/Brown (might have been an error in transposing from written notes to the diagram.
Old 18, my wire is Blue/Black, not Black/White
Old 19, moved to 32 in top diagram, isolated in lower
Old 38, top diagram not used, lower diagram moves it to pin 11.
Old 39, moved to 39 in top diagram, not mentioned in lower.
Old 47, my wire is Yellow/Brown, not White/Green
Old 52, my wire is Green, not Brown/White
Old 54, my wire is Yellow/Black, not white.

I've taken the centre console upper section out but haven't worked out how to remove the eject box section. My plan is to use the switch at the front of the box for pairing but I want to remove the sprung loaded phone connector at the back of the box. Ron B. VK2OTC

I used the bottom chart. I think the diffs around 18 pin front of car are the pairing button, so you could argue either way connected will work. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Here are the final ending connections - the details for the connector on the ULF unit, if it helps.

Just use the simple repin chart and diagnose from there. Each is its own bit, so if mic doesn't work after, just check those connections... if Telephone appears on screen in white, the ULF has power and is on the iBus.....

I think I have worked out why your diagrams above don't match my car. In mine, the microphone connects to the old voice recognition module.

For example, on mine the old cable 54 is Yellow/Black as per the diagram on p220 of RAVE, not White as show in one of the pinout diagrams, 17 is Blue/Brown, not Black/Brown.

This begs the question, does the voice recognition module remain in circuit or is there a revised pinout diagram I haven't yet found?

Also, I have cut the old Siemens eject box out. I hope I don't need the electronics from that as I've cut the ribbon cable. Ron B. VK2OTC

I didn't have the factory phone in mine or the voice. The eject box is just used for the button so cutting the ribbon should not cause an issue. It's fed from the boot anyway. I would imagine you will have to disconnect the old units or they will be on the iBus still.

I'm not aware of any other diagrams. Maybe you need to make some minor changes then. I though the old 54 pin connections should be the same as it's still the TCM but never looked at one with phone already in. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I need to do some reconfiguration of the blue plug in the VRM. There is an adapter available but I'll try just joining the wires.

We'll get there. It's not that important as I rarely get phone calls. The main reason for having it is for those rare occasions when I do get a call. Holding a mobile phone whilst driving (or stopped with the engine running) is, in this State, a A$330 fine plus 4 demerit points (double demerits in holiday periods).
