Sorry, PC having a bit of a hardware failure.........got it going again.........

You must leave 32 in the ULF, (it normally would go to the pairing button in the console). Thats why I used a choccy block. Cut the wire (with fuse 22 out if you are safety conscious) and join back with a choccy block.

I cut the brown 36 wire further from the ULF down the loom - easier to get to - just trace the wire. and put a choccy block in there too - the only difference being I added a wire (any similar wire will do) so that it came out and was long enough to reach the choccy block from pin 32. I pushed the bare end into the choccy block thats on the 32 wire to simulate a button press.

A bit agricultural, but it worked.

I then put a choccy block on the free end to stop it shorting when I wasn't pairing.

About 6 months later I got a pushbutton switch from Maplin and wired that in the boot instead. Tidied the whole job up.

If that makes sense ?

Both have to always be connected to the ULF, hence the "breaking in" to the circuit. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Hi,
Can you help ? I also have a 2002 and would love to add BT. I have the brick phone in the cubby box cradle. Pressing the tel button gives me a message on the screen to insert card. Without too much disassembly I can see this unit in the boot area. Is this the existing telephone unit or BT ? Do I have to get the whole unit out to tell ?

You will have to proceed as if you have no phone. The unit in your car is a telephone control module (tcm) by BMW. That will not do Bluetooth. You will need to buy a BMW ulf and cable and antenna, but not microphone, as I assume that is already there.

The 50 pin plug will also need the rewire. Don't plug it into a ulf as is, or damage will occur.

Bluetooth was never fitted to the early l322's

Hope this gives you a start...... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

So from what I can gather from posters, get 2nd hand BMW ulf from bay of e. Anything I should know ? how about the lead and antenna, the same place ? Then rewire the connector like you say and I'm sorted.

Have a search for BMW ulf and you will find loads of info. The bay of e seems to be the best bet. The newer the version the better is the case. 13 versions were done over the years, shown by a different part number. I have a 6 the generation unit which also does voice control, ant it works with my iPhone 5 fine.

With the antenna, I used to suggest eBay but only a few weeks ago another member on here bought the antenna and lead brand new from a BMW dealer for the same price as used ones on the bay. Again, have a search for Bluetooth or ulf, and there are loads of info.

You may have to fabricate a pairing button. Details in other posts.

Just trying not to duplicate posts too much.

Have a read on here and let us know what you think / your plan...... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

So now have in possession, 1 2nd hand ULF fourth gen from eBay, antenna from same, the Audi connector block as discussed and a wee push button for pairing. The mic is present in the hatch in front of the sunroof I was too hasty ordering the cable and didn't realise that it's coming from China so another couple of weeks before I can install.

Whilst I am waiting, can anyone clarify that as I already have the Dice media bridge ( non B/T ) replacing the CD player and providing music from an iPhone via USB when the B/T module is completed will this interfere with the phone ? As at the moment when someone calls, the music interrupts and the ringtone sounds although no comms can take place, you have to unplug the phone to connect the call.

I am hoping the phone will charge &the music will play as before via Dice and the calls will be via B/T. Can anyone advise ?

The phone just sees the car as a Bluetooth headset. I don't have a separate headset to try, but if you do, it should behave the same.

I'd imagine it should work fine on the car side, as it interrupts audio and goes to telephone mode on the screen. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

So all the parts are now here and ready to go. Stripped all the trim out of the boot but before swapping the parts, a couple of questions.

I've been waiting for over two weeks for the lead to arrive although I've actually got the same cable already there in the boot connecting the old tel module to what looks just like my new bluetooth module sited on top of the satnav unit Confused

Last question : the old unit has this extra cable connected to it which disappears into the d pillar. Do I just tuck this away and forget about it ?

Didn't have an existing unit in mine, so don't know for sure, but I'd pop it out the way and see how you get on.

Should be fine if you take your time.

I'd put all your new stuff in, the antenna must be for your existing phone, but could well be the same.

I'm sure someone else on here will be doing the mod at some point, so you won't be stuck with the items. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

All done & working fine. A bit of a fiddle moving the pins & took a few attempts to pair. Now I need to work out how the set up works on the screen as so far I keep calling someone by mistake every time I press a button. Thanks for all the advice

Excellent news. If you press the button on the steering wheel it calls the last number if you are not carefull. The rt button toggles between radio and telephone for the use of the forward and back buttons on the wheel.

On the screen, the number shown at the top when you are in telephone is what it will call if you don't select another number.

Usually, when I'm ending a call, if the other person disconnects before me, and I press the button on the wheel to disconnect, it calls them again......

Good to have Bluetooth in the car though. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

All still working fine & lovely and clear for me and the other person on the phone. However, when the phone rings, there is no number or name of the caller displayed either on the screen or the instrument cluster. Is it the same for everyone else whose done this mod ?

Bluetooth was never available on the earlier cars, so it must have been added after. Its either using a BMW ULF module on the end of the black 54 pin connector in the boot (having been rewired) or its an aftermarket kit.

Have you got any pics, of the connector near the phone and the kit in the left hand boot compartment ?

Have a search for "ULF" on here.

Welcome to the forum !

Thumbs Up

Hi all,
Has anyone seen any info on how to retire the 54 connector to add the BMW box?

Looked high and low ..

Thanks

It should all be on this forum.

A chart on this thread....

There is only a dozen or so wires to move if I remember right.....
