there is a connector on the 2012 loom which doesn't show on some sets of instructions (2 small white plugs with yellowish wires) these link into the cars loom, it is detailed in the LR fitting instructions in the wiki for the AB, step 10.

So here's where I am struggling:

Step 10 shows the existing wires you need to find (highlighted green). I just can't find them. I've got the glovebox out so visibility relatively good.

Step 9 on the right shows the black arrow inferring there's a clump of wiring (which isn't there) yet:
Step 10 (left side, in green) shows a loop coming down with the connectors at the bottom.
It also doesn't show the clump from Step 9 so very hard to orient where you're supposed to be looking.

Any clues would be very welcome! Thumbs Up

. Cheers, Greg

My bad....I stand corrected, they don't go anywhere on mine either. Was bugging me so I disassembled it and.....

Is it just the button which doesnt do anything on yours, cos you have to press it and hold it then the light should come on and the steps are locked in whatever config they are in. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hi NMJ!

Wow - thanks for checking! I noticed the manual I had was different and that there are two kinds of looms.

You can see the two white connectors with the yellow wires in the loom on the left. I was working off the instructions for the one one the right which I guess explains why many steps did not make sense.

So you and I have the Ultimate Edition version VPLMV0080 (which are the instructions in the Wiki).
(If anyone reading this needs the VPLMP0014 version it's here: http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/service/document/70569 )

Ok so I can stop looking for the loop in the picture.
EDIT: These connectors seem redundant unless you have the Ultimate AB.
In which case you've probably already got a set. And you're a lucky b**stard!!!

Which leaves my roof switch not working. Nothing, even if I press for 5 secs. (at night, the illumination works though) Everything else all good.

I might pull the roof console out again and check the connectors, but I'm pretty confident it's all correct.

. Cheers, Greg

Just noticed the roof connectors are different. But on yours it all works so that can't be it....

Ok well I pushed in every connector again, did a battery reset and the roof switch is now working!
Cool Cool Cool

Thanks for this excellent wiki NMJ - and for checking the connectors.

Best forum ever!

hi i fitted mine a few weeks back.. i found this picture is the wrong way around. the connector it refers to is for the terrain response programe box that is the silver box behind the fuse box the white plugs your looking at further down in your pictures are for adaptive headlight control module
Did you steps come with a little handbook
when TR is selected or Low Range they will not deploy.
i can jack mine up no problems using a trolley jack with an adaptor i made for the correct location or even a hard piece of wood

Have a look at this mark-up Macca. Yes there are cables for that silver box behind the fuse board, of the two marked, one goes into the box and the other goes into the cable you pull out of the box.

I think you're right about the RH pic from step 9 being flipped, so that clump of cables must be heading down the pillar (near door hinges). You must be right, because you can see the connectors coming out of the left side but we know they come out of the right side. Well spotted!

So I'm plugged onto the silver box (Terrain Resp. Box) - and I checked when I go into terrain modes mud etc they don't deploy. So all ok function-wise.

So I can't find any function not working - which is great!
But I can't see what those two connectors do / where they connect to...
.. Cheers, Greg

could the AB black version have illumination in the tread plates of the steps? could it be for that?

edit: nope, they don't seem to be, however they do have the illuminated cill plates on the inner cill so might be for that as the door opening and lighting wiring is diverted through the step control module. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Don't think that's it - my kit had the "ultimate' instructions book so would have thought I have (you too probably) the AB ultimate steps complete kit, not just the loom.

The mystery continues...

Scooby - have a look at this thread:

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/post440040.html#440040

I am not sure if Matt ever overcame the problem with the steps deploying properly with when you open the doors but you will also run into problems fitting the steps because the air tank on the earlier cars gets in the way of the mounting holes.
