So I guess that the recent slush from deiced windows running immediately down the window edge / runner is refreezing on the cold metal right wher it lands on the latch then Evil or Very Mad

Must get those torx screwies and get it sorted before it becomes a problem. I've been sat at work previously praying it would hurry up and latch so I could lock the car and go in to work.

I think an emergency ratched strap in the boot may be in order ... wrapped around both interior door handles.. better than leaving the doors open.. but less than ideal.

Thing is it's a double edged sword as now it too friggin cold to go and sort it Rolling Eyes

I may try and sneak it in one of the bays at work Whistle 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

elpeede, you got it spot on mate..the water does indeed get in via the window trim, runs down a 'runner' straight onto the lock mechanism.. the only way to sort this ,is to remove the lock assembly completely and dry it out and lubricate inside the lock and the cables . ... - .- -.

SO far ok with only one moment where the door lock failed to come up.. different cable!

I've not used de-icer on the door though.. just a scrapper.

Once it thaws out I'll sort the cable I have and lube up the lock mech.. take a peek at the other cable too. 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

it appears the correct answer could be to rub a sheep over the latch mechanisim or buy some sheep water proofing in a pot http://www.flints.co.uk/acatalog/Marine_Lanoguard.html Thumbs Up 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

My drivers door cable also failed last Friday just as I was leaving for work, I've had to live with it for a week as I've been away in Warcop and Catterick - muchos bummer!!!

Bought a replacement cable today from Land Rover (a little over £7) and fitted it on the driveway this afternoon when I got home from work... a little fiddly but on the whole not too bad a job. If anything, the door card was a bit of a b Censored d to refit. Rolling Eyes

Rear o/s handle this time...

Nearly 5 years since this posting, but looks the most likely link to my problem. 2011 TDv8VSE rear o/s passenger door stopped working suddenly, cant open from outside or inside handles. Remote lock works fine, is this most likely cable snap?
Also, can the door card be removed when door shut?
Thanks
Doug

Just had my 07 TDV8 drivers side go, same thing couldn't open it from the outside, no resistance on the handle.

Local stealer had one in stock £32!! Was about 45 minute job in the dark including cleaning everything up. We used a gentle hot air gun on the sealant holding down the foam trim and it came off / went back on perfect.

Cheers guys, enabled me to order the part without haveing to strip the door down first!

Bloody Nubbin seized in situ!

great thread this! Had my external door cable go the other day so searched and found this thread: followed it to a tee and got everything off in 35 mins only to find when trying to put the new cable end into the slot that it won't go! so had to take the door locks off (great powerful Uk youtube vid BTW!) to see why not, only to find the old broken end of the wire is firmly and irrevocably seized in the hole! Have tried drilling it out to no avail.

Any ideas anyone?
