Rolling Eyes 10 better, but I don't like 10 Sad it is totally different to all the previous windows, I just can find my way around it..... it feels like someone is saying you've spoken English for 50 years, but now the whole country is going to speak Russian, overnight Shocked Not to mention the pop3 email, or should I say lack of Evil or Very Mad It's all too much for an old fart to cope with... you have to remember that when I was at school calculators didn't require electricity, just a good dusting and possibly some Cuprinol to dissuade the worms Rolling Eyes

What about going back to XP or 98..... or 95 Razz

I also think that there might be something going on with the internet connection as the laptop was taking it's time to load web pages today.. that's on win7 and it's 2.2gig Quad, so that shouldn't really suffer.. and I hardly use it, and it's got sod all programs loaded on it other than Sage and NavCoder Rolling Eyes But everytime I do a speed check it says that I';m getting 17.8 Mb so I'm a bit stumped Sad

Re your laptop. If you connect via Wireless then I think (I might be wrong) that the max speed of a wireless transfer is way less than the speed you get when you are hard wired into the router.

Right, going through this lot.

Windows 10 is simple. You just need a few pointers on how best to use it. Win-7 is a good alternative but long in the tooth now. Vista, XP, 98, 95 are all well out of support, so they are insecure. Steer clear of old operating systems.

Email, be it POP, IMAP or whatever is built into Windows 10. Multiple accounts, all in one place if you really must. Personally I would say grab a copy of MS Outlook (not express) and use that. It is the corporate standard in most places and for good reasons.

The main issue is that Win 10 is 64 bit only. It won't run on your 32 bit hardware. If you really have to keep the old PC then a 32 bit copy of Windows 7 is the way to go.

Win 10, afaik wont run pop3 emails, and if it does they have hidden it so well that I couldn't find it... having spent what seamed a life time banging my head against a wall I gave up trying to setup a win 10 slaptop from a friend... saying that they'd have to find a 5 year old to do it Laughing

The main reason for staying with the existing PC is there is a lot of company info in the form of emails that I really need to keep, and I really don't know how to save them without producing a lorry full of paper Rolling Eyes Sometimes I wish I was younger so that I understood it all a bit better, or a older so that I didn't know at all... knowing a little can be frustrating Rolling Eyes Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Rolling Eyes Well I'm in the process (as we speak) of reloading Trend... but it would appear to have stalled at 98% Banging Head Been sitting at that for 30 minutes now.. getting very board Rolling Eyes Now got to the stage where i don't care if I get a bug Ner Ner would serve it right..

Contemplating a restart to see if that will give it the kick up the ass that it needs Twisted Evil

Wot's more it really didn't want to go, took 3 goes with revo uninstaller to get shot and then it left a load read me files Evil or Very Mad So I ended up deleting any thing that was published by trend Twisted Evil So things could go very quirt if I do a restart Shocked Laughing

And wot is this Mac thing that someone's trying to flog me... I thought it was a burger.. put me down for 2 I'm feeling hungry Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Exactly AJAC8, missing the point and an uneducated view. Apple products are expensive, but work for many years (I have a 2011 27" iMac that is still lightening fast) . In hindsight I would have got my kids Apple products as opposed to MS laptops that needed replacing every 1.5 years. Suggest maybe time for an upgrade for the OP. Go for a Mac (not a big Mac!). OSX is a far more efficient OS. That said, install Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel, Word for Mac which are brilliant as the MS products are industry standard and the best (forget the Apple equivalents, they are not so good). SDV8 AB MY 2019

Is that a Mac or a Mac meal? Wink

I can't afford to buy a new computer every time mine has a hiccup... plus I get a bit peed off at having to relearn an operating system every time Microsoft feels it isn't making enough money Evil or Very Mad and I've just got the hang of the old system... I don't need to keep up with the Jones's cos I don't know them Shocked Rolling with laughter

There is going to be no easy way around this, I'll just have to rebuild the bloody thing Sad That should sort it.. a year ago it was working fine... so there is no reason why it shouldn't be fine again. I'll just have to send the business email all the ones I need to keep and send them back after Big Cry Why can't you just copy them to word.. it would be easier to move a big file than hundreds of emails, or better put them on a stick Rolling Eyes Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Uneducated? And you know this how exactly? Try 20 years experience with them from the days of the G3 in a commercial publishing environment. There are many excellent reasons why they are still considered as toys by the business community.

I stand by the original point, Macs are expensive and Miggit's PC could easily be replaced for 300 quid and give another 5 years of service quite happily. So your Mac would need to last at least 30 years just to break even, and that's before considering all the software he would have to replace.

Miggit. I'll send a PM. Have something here which might suit you. Thumbs Up

Exactly Stan, and we all know about your DELETE button mate. Thumbs Up

My Sony Vaio from 2006 is still perfectly fine. My HP Elitebook from 2013 is still a powerhouse and even with the upgrades (500gb SSD and 32GB of RAM) has still cost me less than 1200 quid.

Now, remember a post from me? Would have been late 2010. Summat about crApples. Might have been the post which persuaded Martin to implement a swear filter. Whistle
