Re your laptop. If you connect via Wireless then I think (I might be wrong) that the max speed of a wireless transfer is way less than the speed you get when you are hard wired into the router. |

Right, going through this lot. Windows 10 is simple. You just need a few pointers on how best to use it. Win-7 is a good alternative but long in the tooth now. Vista, XP, 98, 95 are all well out of support, so they are insecure. Steer clear of old operating systems. Email, be it POP, IMAP or whatever is built into Windows 10. Multiple accounts, all in one place if you really must. Personally I would say grab a copy of MS Outlook (not express) and use that. It is the corporate standard in most places and for good reasons. The main issue is that Win 10 is 64 bit only. It won't run on your 32 bit hardware. If you really have to keep the old PC then a 32 bit copy of Windows 7 is the way to go. |

Win 10, afaik wont run pop3 emails, and if it does they have hidden it so well that I couldn't find it... having spent what seamed a life time banging my head against a wall I gave up trying to setup a win 10 slaptop from a friend... saying that they'd have to find a 5 year old to do it |

Exactly AJAC8, missing the point and an uneducated view. Apple products are expensive, but work for many years (I have a 2011 27" iMac that is still lightening fast) . In hindsight I would have got my kids Apple products as opposed to MS laptops that needed replacing every 1.5 years. Suggest maybe time for an upgrade for the OP. Go for a Mac (not a big Mac!). OSX is a far more efficient OS. That said, install Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel, Word for Mac which are brilliant as the MS products are industry standard and the best (forget the Apple equivalents, they are not so good). Uneducated? And you know this how exactly? Try 20 years experience with them from the days of the G3 in a commercial publishing environment. There are many excellent reasons why they are still considered as toys by the business community. I stand by the original point, Macs are expensive and Miggit's PC could easily be replaced for 300 quid and give another 5 years of service quite happily. So your Mac would need to last at least 30 years just to break even, and that's before considering all the software he would have to replace. Miggit. I'll send a PM. Have something here which might suit you. ![]() |
