the only proper clean would be to start from scratch..I agree it's takes a long time but in the end it's worth it..

Defragged, registry cleaned and defragged, and every time I turn it on it gets slower |

have you tried a restore point - restore back to a time when it wasn't slow ? and if its a PC hoover the dust out of the insides various other LR's this one is still the best |

What worked for me was replacing the C Drive with a SSID disc and running the operating system from the SSID ultra fast immediate response to everything.

A good clean up/hoover would be useful on both desktop or laptop.

saw an add yesterday from a usb tool called xtra pc. It seems to speed up the computer.

One other thing to check is if there is high utilisation of resources by an svchost process, it could be a virus. So worth running an AV scan. SDV8 AB MY 2019

how many icons have you got in your task bar at the bottom ,many programs install themselves and run continuously even if you rarely use it. Its ages since I used a windows based computer but here is a handy how to which can speed up your system I always used to uncheck any programs that i knew and that weren't used that often

I use a couple of applications, one is called CCleaner (crap Cleaner!) from Piriform ( http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner ) its free but works well.

You never really speed up an old mechanical hard drive... £70 SSiD is the answer. |

Replace your hard drive with an SSD. Add more memory. those are the 2 things which make the most difference.

Yup 16GB RAM & Ultra Fast SSD BANG! worked for me on 8 year old HP Pavillion Desktop and I did it myself in under an hour and I am no PC expert.... |
