Never noticed those before!


Look closely at the bonnet hinges, you'll see to smaller brackets, that rotate and locate on to two studs.

I've managed to get the i1 Varta Silver Top for £119 from a battery centre in Nothampton.

110AH, 920CCA.

Me thinks I got a good price, I can collect it too so have the peace of mind if anything goes wrong.

I'm not sure it actually is the battery causing the my problems (no FBH, HEVAC switches itself off, hazards come on when putting the key in etc). defintitelt electrical issues and since the car is 5 years old it will be due anyway.

lets hope it warms up over the weekend Wink

well you have got the correct power battery Thumbs Up , just remember to put the steering hard left ,then right when you've connected it.. ... - .- -.

but you could try a spot of land sailing (backwards or forwards, but I would reinfoce the bonnet for forwards)? .

All done Very Happy

It took a bit of wiggling as the 110ah is about 50mm longer then the OEM.

it didn't fix my FBH problem though so that will need dealer assistance me thinks. Good jo it's under warranty. Wink

Hmmm... the Tayna site (http://www.tayna.co.uk) has two car fitment guides, one standard and one updated. When I ran the guide for FFRR Diesel:

The standard guide gives the type 610 200 Varta I1 with 920 crank and 110Ah @ £115.99 + £10.43 delivery (VAT inc)
Dimensions: 393 x 175 x 190 mm

whilst the updated guide gives the 019 type Varta H3 with 830 crank and 100Ah @ £98.99 + £9.73 delivery (VAT inc)
Dimensions: 353 x 175 x 190 mm

From what has been written above the I1 will fit, but is it worth the extra £25?


http://www.carbatteryshop.co.uk also offers the Varta I1 by default for the FFRR at the same price.

Also I looked in Halfrauds today. Their battery had a crank of 550/580 Confused .

I can recommend the i1 having fitted one yesterday. It's snug but it makes all the difference, £25 divided over the next 5 years or so isn't really worth worrying about imho.

920cca is what it's all about.

Well, great service from Tayna - it arrived the next day, but needed to wait for some daylight at the weekend before fitting. When I got it out of the packaging I thought, "no way is this going to go in!". However it does fit, and if you organise all the cables out of the way, it just slots straight in, and then a little jiggle to line up for the clamping bolts.

Made much easier by putting the bonnet in service position, and because I'm a short-arse, I stood on a box to give me better leverage when taking out the old and putting in the new. These Censored are heavy so good manual handling practice is a must.

The battery that came out was a no name "Master" - "Charging Bull" with crank of 680. No wonder.

Only trouble I did have was with refitting the negative cable - just long enough and you have to squeeze it down the side of the battery to get it to fit down on the terminal.

Starting up the car showed an immediate change...

Instead of rrr.......rrr.......rrr......rrr......start

it was rrr.rrr.rrr.start

(meant to indicate how much faster the starter motor was turning)

I got an air suspension inactive message, but guess this will go away once I have started and stopped the car.

Now I can add my old battery in series to my solar panel setup at my beachhut. Smile .
