Terrain Response - Snow

During this bad weather I have been using my 2009 TDV8 with the Terrain response set to the Snow setting, at first whenever I switched the engine off and later re-started, it returned to the normal setting however it now goes to the snow setting whenever I start the engine even when it was left in the normal setting before switching off. any sugestions how I get it to stay in the normal setting until I want to change it?

It depends on how frequently you drive your car. If you use your car as a daily driver, then the Terrain Response will remember the last selection you made. From pg. 197 of the manual

Quote:

If the starter switch is turned off with a special
program selected, then the system will
remember for approximately six hours which
program was selected and return to that
program once the starter switch is turned back
on

That being said, the same page also notes
Quote:

It is possible to have the Terrain
Response system configured so that if
the Grass Gravel Snow program is
selected, and the starter switch is turned off,
the system will not default back to the General
program after the six hour period. The Grass
Gravel Snow program will remain selected until
it is deselected manually. Consult your Land
Rover Dealer/Authorised Repairer

Thanks for that ukrangie, it is time related and now seems to have sorted itself out! Im getting a set of Goodyear MTR's fitted next week so I expect that will be the end of the snow!

My pleasure. When I first noticed it, I thought perhaps the car was being clever or it was temperature related. Paul

Just as an aside: MT's make poor snow tires (other than in snow up to your eyeballs). What makes a good snow tire is not big lugs but sipes (the little squiggly cuts in the tread - wikipedia has a good explanation). The big lugs on an MT reduce the amount of rubber on the road or on snow and actually make even worse snow tires in average 1-2" snows or on packed snow streets than summer tires. MT's can only help in very deep, unplowed snow.
