United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Oslo Blue
HDC Inactive and Air suspension inactive

Hi Guys,
Came out of work tonight and fired up the beast. Temp was reading -0.5C but as i went through the key positions the dreaded display pinged up "HDC Inactive" & "Air suspension inactive" Big Cry . Reversed out the space and turned the car off, though i would have to do "lock to lock" to clear the air suspension as I still had the light on the hight display. As i turned the key back to start again i had no faults and she drove home fine. Very Happy
Over the past few month i have every now and again had the HDC fault but its only just pinged up then cleared straight away. Confused
Any ideas what could be the cause? Was she just Censored off being left in the cold all day and had a mood swing or could there be something more to it?
Thanks in advance
Rob

How old is your battery? The first thing to "ping" if the charge drops is "HDC Inactive". Mine does it if it has been left for a week and did it routinely before I changed the (five year old) battery. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

No idea how old the battery is. Got the car in June and haven't had a problem with it. Looks quite new but that doesn't mean much.

Taken from above thread-
"HDC Inactive" Message - Fault Found

Took Range to Stealer this morning and I have to say I was impressed. Very helpful and honest.

Plugged Range upto computer and found No Codes stored in any of the ECU's.

They explained that the reason why the "HDC Inactive" Messages Displays.

Technical Service Bulletin No. LM206-002, 04 January 2005

Subject/Concern: Range Rover (LM) - HDC Inactive Message after Engine Start in Low Temperatures.

Models: Range Rover (LM) 2002 - 2006 Engine: TD6

Markets: All

Section: 206-09

Section: Brakes

Summary: In low ambient temperatures the "HDC INACTIVE" message may be displayed during and/or shortly after cranking the engine.

NOTE: HDC functionality is NOT effected, this is a message display error only.

Cause: Low batter voltage during engine cranking triggers the message display.

Action: Should a customer express concern regarding the above, refer to the Service Instruction detailed in this Bulletin in order to replace the anti-lock braking (ABS) electronic control unit (ECU)

So what is it then landrover? low ambient temperature, low battery voltage or ABS ECU.... Rolling Eyes 2004 black Vogue TD6

If starting the car in cold weather does cause a drain on the battery voltage, therefore triggering the lights/warnings etc, I'm going to attach a battery pack to the car when I start it tomorrow, hopefully boosting the charge enough to not trigger the warnings. Will see what happens....

(Would have liked this sorted, as i'm doing a 700 mile round trip next week to Scotland, would rather not have these warning lights on.) Well I suppose the battery will get a good charge! Very Happy

I know your getting the suspension message too but i have always got hdc inactive, this alone is without a doubt linked to the battery. I got it everytime i started but with a new battery i only get it if the range rover has not been used for a few days. Give it a good run and i dont see it for a while, few short runs, leave her parked for a few days then "bong" its back. Basically even with a new battery it needs to be 100% charged, i only get for a few seconds after starting then its gone so never hard faulted on mine, are your warnings on permanently? The cold possibly aggravates the battery related problem but dont know what the ABS ECU has to do with it other than a electrical gremlin land rover has traced back to this.

Good Luck. 2004 black Vogue TD6
