Are the OEM Goodyear Wrangler HP's terrible in snow?

I needed a set of tires this fall and, though they were not my first choice, I got a terrific deal on Wrangler HP's. I didn't spend much time researching before making my decision as I figured if LR provided them as OEM tires they couldn't be all bad. But either they're terrible in snow or we had the slipperiest snow on record here in the Alsace last week. It was much worse than the previous Pirellis, Michelins, or any other tire I've had on any of my RR's as of late.

WARNING - story below contains grapic details

Did have a bit of a funny experience tho. I was literally crawling with the rest of traffic on the way home from work Wednesday eve. A bit later I had to pick my daughter up from volleyball practice in the next town over - unfortunately I also seem to have picked up a horrible stomach flu which kicked in quite violently during this short drive. As I didn't know which end I was going to spew bile liquids from first, I had to get home - road and traffic conditions be damned. It's actually quite amazing what can be done with a 2+ ton RR despite DSC. I was drifting around one corner at a 45° angle when suddenly I saw 3 faces looking more or less like this Shocked Shocked Shocked . And to my shock 2 of the faces were in uniform. Turns out another motorist had slid off the road on the inside of the curve and 2 Flics (Gendarmes) were at the scene. I can only assume that they were so blinded by the bi-xenons on main pointing at them that they couldn't read my plate and they didn't come after me. Prolly thought that they'd either get a message that there was a nut somewhere in the ditch in not too long or it was Sebastian Loeb (WRC champ - lives not too far from here) and they wouldn't catch him anyway. Made me forget my nausea and the pain in my gut for about 15 secs. Laughing

Too much information!

I had Wranglers on my 18's and disliked them intensely. I've also had them on P38's in the past They were always a nightmare to balance and generally when 50% worn they were no good due to their problems wandering all over the road.

That being said, they gave "acceptable" snow performance.

Use em for the snow and sell them!
