Actually its better if you use a sharp knife - less chance of scratching:

Main dealer did mine for 8.11 last week - all in including new genuine casing and labour - no point messing around doing it yourself |

so i took a leap of faith and had a go at changing the key fob and to my surprise it works!!
after,
the new fob cost 10 off ebay and unfortunately doesnt have the 'range rover' logo on it ..maybe the next one i purchase will have.. its fiddly to do but quite easy..i had to do a little fettling to get the pcb board to fit by just taking about 1mm off one 5mm long edge .. the emergency key blade fits under the silver side bit.. ... - .- -. Inspired by the success of Stan and others, I've also replaced my bulky 2010 key with the slimmer, lighter model. Only the cheapo eBay shell at 10, but looked carefully for one with the Range Rover lettering.
