some abs / hdc fault lights wont self clear until the car drives for a distance and the system confirms its able to read the sensors correctly. V8 or else ...

Good to know that. Still locked up when I left it but didn't go more than a few hundred yards slowly. Will try it more when I get it back.

I'm obviously a bit more devil may care, when mine did it I just booted it with a wheel locked up and stood on the brakes a few times till it sorted itself out.... just tell it who's boss.... Thumbs Up Pete

Well slight update - after jumping in with one of the other more inexperienced guys as an instructor come guide he was leaving early so stayed the night at my parents. I then went and borrowed a trailer from a friend and returned to the pub to pick up the RR.

Only to find it was exactly the same width as the RR but the bulges in the tyres (despite extra air) meant it wouldn't fit on without damaging them. Embarassed

So several phone calls later, and many chats with the locals in the pub, I managed to convince the RAC that there wasn't any point sending out a van and just to send a recovery truck. Got it back at about 8pm last night to the farm.

Put it up on stands / blocks this morning and verified all diffs operating as normal, no obvious damage to any of the sensors but after a chat with a workshop guy in Hunter's Guildford I'll take it into a garage tomorrow (with a bigger trailer) down here in Pembrokeshire to hook it up to their diagnostics and narrow down the culprit. 90% sure it's a wheel sensor but don't know which one so to save me the hassle I'll just let them plug it in and see. Ed

Bet that took some paint of your towbar... certainly took some off my old bumper...!!!

Hope FF is a nice easy fix, I bet it's right rear sensor.... Thumbs Up Pete

Ironically (despite the sound) nothing touched on the bomb hole. Did hit the armature on Soar y Mynydd where they've been patching up the track though. Nothing bad at all, just a bit of dust. Ed

Right some more (lack of) progress:

Summary
- brake warning light is permanently illuminated in red
- ABS warning light is permanently illuminated in orange
- DSC warning light is permanently illuminated in orange

On switching on ignition:
- HDC system unavailable

After a short while - usually after driving a short while
- Suspension lowered

When IID tool is plugged in get:
- Invalid data received from ECM, TCM, and VDS
- Valve relay supply fault

Monitoring live values shows four sensible wheel speed values so suspect it's not a sensor but could be wrong.
Plugging it into a local garage's diagnostic system he couldn't force the compressor to come on and was showing 0V on the system (Autologics). However I have heard the compressor come on since then and I don't trust the garage particularly since he was the one that made my 110's turbo self destruct by leaving a washer in the intake. But was the only one available today.

No signs of water ingress anywhere and all cables from wheel end into connector blocks seems fine. Can't remember whether the brake wear sensors were broken or not. All fuses are fine. Ed

Sorry VDM - Vehicle Dynamic Module.

Most faults are shown under Terrain Response - but speaking to a Land Rover mechanic a few days ago that can't throw faults itself, if the modules it interacts throw faults then it does, and that ties in with the workshop manual. One of them is under the vehicle dynamics module (the valve relay message).

I have the codes written down somewhere... Found the email:

(Note I've always had the Audio Amplifier, Audio System and TMC errors).

AAM-Audio Amplifier
• B1A02-13 (2F) Speaker 2 circuit - General electrical failure - circuit open
• B1A01-13 (2F) Speaker 1 circuit - General electrical failure - circuit open

ACM-Audio System
• U1A03-62 (2B) Vehicle configuration parameter - Algorithm based failure - signal compare failure

ATCM-Terrain Response
• U0401-94 (2E) Invalid data received from engine control module/powertrain control module - Component failure - unexpected operation
• U0402-94 (2E) Invalid data received from transmission control module - Component failure - unexpected operation
• U0416-94 (2F) Invalid data received from vehicle dynamics control module - Component failure - unexpected operation
• U0403-94 (2E) Invalid data received from transfer case control module - Component failure - unexpected operation
• U0421-94 (2C) Invalid data received from ride level control module - Component failure - unexpected operation

RDUM-Remote Driver
• B1A99-4C (2F) Unknown

RLM-Suspension
• U0416-86 (A7) Invalid data received from vehicle dynamics control module - Bus signal/message failure - signal is invalid

TCCM-Transfer Case

TMC-Traffic Message
• B1A56-18 (2F) Antenna circuit - General electrical failure - circuit current below threshold

VDM-Vehicle Dynamic

Does it still jerk when driving ??

Not something silly like low battery voltage?? Pete

For MY07-MY12 the suspension will always lower for any brake system fault, with the logic being to make the vehicle safer whilst there's a brake system fault. Hence the suspension fault can be ignored.

Where is the TCCM mounted in these vehicles? The D3/D4's TCCM is mounted in the engine bay, is not sealed and fails if it gets wet. Its also a node in the canbus network so when it fails it effectively isolates the halves of the network making ecus on either side of it unable to communicate thereby causing a raft of faults.

I suggest that attempts be made to interrogate the TCCM to determine if its still working.

Yes the drive does still yerk - took it for a spin in the field last night and got it up to about 30mph before running out of space and did that for a while and that didn't sort anything out.

The battery is relatively new (last year) and has not exhibited any issues, when I've been monitoring the voltage (albeit via the IID tool) the alternator has been charging well (I replaced that a few months ago). The garage I took it to for additional diagnostics said it was a bit high (14.9 but I've seen alternators chuck out 15V) and I take his comment with a pinch of salt since I couldn't see the display at the time and I take everything he says with a bucket of salt.

With regards to the TCCM (transfer case control module?) that's built onto the gearbox I think (but I can change between high and low quite happily). From what I've managed to see / work out the only ECUs outside the cabin or engine bay box are the ABS and transfer case control module. The ABS is right next to the front driver side strut inside the engine bay and right at the top. Everything else is inside either the big black box in the engine bay or inside the cabin - and nothing shows any sign of water ingress at all.

[edit]The TCCM is inside the box in the "sealed" box inside the engine bay - there's absolutely no signs of water ingress in there[/edit]

Would the brake wear sensors cause an issue like this? Or perhaps the height sensors? They're really the only things down on the axles. Ed
