After yesterday I think I will trust in hydraulics rather than a big cushion LoL or another Land Rover POS scissor Jack.

I was on very flat ground when this happened, I had the passenger side of the vehicle on the kerb / pavement but it was one of them roads where the kerbstones are very small in profile.

Stan's cabinet making has amused me today, its interesting what some people do to there interiors, home from home Whistle

Im assuming you couldn't place this jack into the jacking points that the scissor jack goes into ?

Would this type not be a better solution, 2 ton though ?

The recovery guy only had a 2.5Ton trolley jack and said it wont be a problem as we are only lifting one corner, so taking that into account one of these maybe suitable ?

Halfords Advanced 3 Tonne Quick Lift Garage Trolley Jack, play on the side of caution and all that ?

I need to get something today as Ive got nothing and if I have another flat tyre issue needing the recovery people, they will sting me good style Evil or Very Mad

I keep the Mercedes sprinter bottle jack in with the spare wheel and in a cloth as ndf above.
I find the front a lot easier to jack up and support, but the rear I've found is a tad more difficult as it takes a lot longer to jack. Usually I put the trolley jack under where the air spring is as well as bottle jack on jacking point, supporting is a bit of a lottery on the rear think I need longer axle stands and put under the sub frame.
As for the horns on the m/s jack some peeps have gound them down to make a flat surface, I use mine as is and it fits nicely in the jacking point diagonally. There are a few threads on modifying the top of the jack removing the spring pin and putting another metal block machined to fit then replacing the spring pin. The lift height is the important thing as a lot of standard jacks don't lift high enough. Think I paid about £30 quid for mine last year. THE SISSOR JACK IS PANTS and I wouldn't trust it.
Greg. Thumbs Up

I've got that one.

I also have a sprinter bottle jack which I leave in the boot.

Does that trolley jack come in a box that you can carry in the boot ?
Some of them are packaged like a power-tool these days, nice and neat etc.

Is your bottle jack the one with the horns ?

Just a word to the wise, and genuinely not wanting to be the voice of doom........

Whatever you choose, the best place for it by far is in with the spare wheel, wrapped in an old towel to wedge it in. If (God forbid) you had a serious shunt with an unsecured jack in the boot it will become a missile with a kinetic energy weight value in the hundreds of kilos!!

I cleared out a colleague's car back when I was a Service Engineer, basically he fell asleep at the wheel and came off the road. A pozidrive screwdriver was found embedded in the dash having destroyed the speedo. It pushed the actual dial clean out of the back of the binnacle. That image has never left me in 30 odd years.

Unsecured stuff becomes very lethal if it's travelling 30 or 40 mph faster than the thing it hits; you really don't want a bottle jack hitting you on the back of the napper at any speed TBH

I have one of these to negate the use of the LR cheese-jack: http://www.sgs-engineering.com/garage-equi...ottle-jack

Bought it for the lift but an added bonus is all the capacity you could ever need. Laughing Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

10 Ton ? Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Ive read its physical dimensions, is it small enough to fit in the wheel well with a 20" wheel ?

Is there a reason why people get a merc sprinter jack rather than a branded / generic 3 ton bottle jack ?

Sorry, can't say as I don't have a FF.

Figured it would be best to have as much height range as possible (might need it if green laning etc.), but it's for a D3 so any extra strength is welcome! Laughing Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

My Sprinter bottle jack lives in the storage box on the RHS where the removable towbar would go (as I don't have that the removable type). It's a snug fit but means that I wouldn't have to empty the boot to lift the floor if I got a puncture while out shopping. Very Happy

The Low profile SGS one I linked to is a bit of a beast, and lives at home, currently I have the sprinter jack with the horns but have been looking for the adapter block that you can put on that fits in the plastic slot the factor deathtrap locates in. Formerly happymadison1978

if you want to locate it properly in the under floor 'socket' then search ebay for mini jack pad adaptor or similar
like this, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-NEW-MINI-JAC...2589bc1afc then unscrew the blue top piece and drill this adaptor to fit on, so you have a good square location. (-for the sprinter jack)

yes to wheel well. however, as i have lpg, i have my skinny spare in the upright position, and a bolt to the parcel shelf left hand support, and the sprinter jack is strapped into the wheels' 'well'
