Is it really worth £100k

In my world £100k is a lot of dosh. I read with interest the threads on here about the L405 and often wonder, is that vehicle really worth £100k. There are lots of plus points and I am not spoiling for a scrap with any owners here either but it has to be said, £100k for a Range Rover.....

Oh and before the list of "yes it is worth it begins"...i am 100% in agreement with;

- versatile, luxurious, presence etc - ie all the standard RR features.

I'd like one too, one day....but if I had £100k to put on a car I am far from convinced it'd be a RR L405.

Discuss....... Thumbs Up Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Not sure too many will actually handover the full purchase price, i.e financed or leased?

I might be talking through my arse here, but after having owned all the Range Rovers up to the L322 (Classic - 3, P38 and L322 - all petrol V8's) I really think that LR have seriously lost the plot with this latest model.

OK, its nice, luxurious, great off road etc etc, but with all the blingy crap on them they are pandering to the Premier League football players and Celebs!

Couple of weeks back my wife rented a 63 plate Range Rover Sport, when she picked me up from the station I was convinced it was an Ewok (thats another sore point as I do not think they should be called a Range Rover!), we have a 2003 L322 and this Sport seemed way smaller inside, the design of the dashboard is garbage compared to the L322.

We also have 3 dogs (Working Cocker and American Cocker). When we had our P38 we bought a custom built dog cage from Guardsman, cost over £500, so when we got the L322 we assumed that the old cage would fit, it didn't! We had to have the cage chopped by about 4" off the length to fit. Looking at the L405 there is no way the cage would fit so it is obviously much smaller.

People I have spoken to say this one is longer and wider, but it just does not give that impression.

The Sport my wife had was the V6 Diesel! DIESEL!!!!!! When she pulled off the drive it sounded like, well, nothing! No nice V8 burble!

The P38 always looked a bit like a London Taxi compared to the Classic, at least the L322 looked a bit like the Classic with the bonnet design, and it had presence, but the L405, I dont know, looks a bit like when the Ford Sierra was launched and evryone said it was a 'German Jelly Mould' design.

But when you cant easliy distinguish the Range Rover from an Evoque (and possibly the next Discovery), you might as well start badging them as Porsches, cos lets face it, Porsche Designers only have one basic shape!!

And as to the original question, Is it worth £100K - no!!

Paul.....could you elaborate please Rolling with laughter

Where I work there are more than a handful of well known footballists and I'd say over half drive a RR...but it's a lux-bus and so I'd expect them too but for the poor like me...like someone said "surely if it's being bought, it's worth it"...dont dispute that, but it's who is buying it.....I can't imagine Ryan Giggs nipping on here to get a FULLFAT sticker for his back window or seeing how you fit front mudflaps !

I just can't seem to get my head around £100k that's all.... Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

The were always over 100,000k here in Ireland for the L322 and people bought them.

Seen very few new ones - any I did were UK Reg.

I imagine those that have the money will purchase and good look to them, a car is never an investment. It's for ones enjoyment and when one enters into the league of spending an extra 1,000 here and there it won't break the bank. If it did - one should not be driving a new RR.

however, like any new car - give it time.

We will all grow to love.

I do admit one thing Land Rover got wrong, too many cars with RR and all look far to similar... only individuals like us may know the difference, ordinary punter on the street won't have a clue.

I read in the Top Gear magazine that they will miss the L322 because they can open the top tailgate and drive along with a cameraman and his kit in the boot, as a lead car to take action shots.

They can't do that in the L405 as the boot is much smaller and the number plate cannot be seen from the rear if you open the tailgate.

I've never been in the L405 so I can't talk with any knowledge, but it's like asking if a £20k tdv8 is twice the car as a £10k td6. - it's not twice the car, but if you want one and you are happy to pay that price, it's what you get. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

England 2011 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black

It seems that the brand is evolving and aiming upmarket in line with the competition. As much as I also sympathise that it should steer clear of the rich footballer type buyers (to maintain company class) the company needs to sell volume in order to survive.

Just like Bentley, Rolls and Aston Martin without the foreign buyers or footballer buyers etc they would barely survive the next 10 years.

So I do think they are worth 100k (if it they can sell them at that price) despite also agreeing that they are over priced and pandering to the clueless nouveau riche.

I am just happy that LR is going strong and that I can have an example of the pedigree sitting on my drive. Tom

The L405 is growing on me even though I cant afford the £800 a month on leasing for the non autobiography model. Is any car worth £100K+ ? If you are wealthy enough to afford one or it's a subsidised company car you are one lucky bar steward because if I had the money I'd buy one Smile Travelling around in circles again.

I can try! I'm from Cheshire originally, so I know all the areas there. I agree also with your first posting also, just trying to say that both myself and wife love Range Rovers, even though they spend more time being fixed than they do on the road, but I think they are losing the plot a bit. Remember clarksons comment about the blinged up 2010 model when he said 'it should be renamed the Range Rooney'?

That's what I mean.

Good question!

As they are selling well, they are definite worth 100K to some. If you have 100K just lying around surplus - why no treat yourself?

To me, NO it isn't worth it. New cars plummet in value unless it's a very rare exotic and then only is special circumstances. I like the L405. In a few years, you'll be able to buy a 15K L405. Then I'll be VERY interested.
