It is clearly worth £100K as there is still a long waiting list even after 2 years of production.

please dont shoot me down in flames but a very popular £100k SUV is the G-Class AMG.....I like that old school rugged look and the car parks in Doha appear to be filling with them. Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........ |

A G Class is just an expensive novelty, objectively hopeless next to a Range Rover. |

Trommel - I disagree with the hopeless next to a RR statement. I have driven an older G350 and it was very, very capable with full locking diffs and a lot of travel for off road work and built by Mercedes since they cared about what they put out there.

Even more incredible to me is that £100k is for a diesel - which as SKOT put it elsewhere: 'diesels are for lorries and fairground generators. A FFRR should be a V8 petrol by law.' |

Agreed (and I like them), but the current ones are so stiff I bet they have virtually no axle articulation - diff locks may help in that respect (like traction control does on things like the Freelander), but it's not the same as having all your wheels on the ground. There's a no-frills Professional version, but you can't buy it over here. They aren't built by Mercedes though ... There's a new version coming with a wider body, aluminium chassis and independent front suspension - should be a bit more civilised. Last edited by Philip on 22nd May 2014 11:12am. The G63 AMG is in niche of its own. I would think very few L405 buyers would have it on their list of alternatives. It is undoubtedly good off-road but otherwise it is too old, too ugly and not big or luxurious enough. The GL is a closer L405 competitor than the G. |

Not been in a new one....in terms of build I think the originals were built by Puch under licence but not sure if they still do

shamefully your spot on. Mainly Saudi's and Qatari's who are on contract rates in Doha. Many have a Bentley/Aston/FF plus a toy which ranges from a Ferrari 458 to a Lexus 570 (Posh landcruiser) and a few G-wagons.

Thinking about it, there are a couple of newish G350s locally so someone thinks they're an alternative to a Range Rover. Most I see are Mayfair tinsel G55/63/65s though. |
