Got the key today Daveo, nice bit of kit.

I too went to my local Timpsons and he sent me away again saying he cant cut keys they dont supply. I did ask why and he said recently they did a key for a lexus that snapped in the ignition and subsequently cost them £700. It did get me thinking about the quality of the metal used in these 'copy' new flip keys, how long have you been doing these and has there been any issues like snapping Daveo ?

Im going to a different key cutting place tomorrow to try get it cut by them. They do look well and are a massive improvement to the old style key Thumbs Up

PS - how do you get in them to put the chip in from my old key, like glennhoward says, I dont want to damage it trying to get it open

The are dead easy to open - just prise the back off from the ends (thumbnail will get into the slot and do it)...

The chap who cut mine was quite complimentary about the quality of the key blade - he said a lot of the ebay specials are made of steel - and are so hard they damage the cutting head on the machine - these are the ones that are likely to snap in the ignition - the harder the metal the easier it can snap rather than bend...

These blades are good quality - brass coated with nickel I think. But they cut well and seem plenty strong enough for the job - I would say they are close to OEM spec.

The man in my Timpsons told me the same story about one snapping in an ignition - so maybe he wasn't just being a miserable Censored Smile - Unless it was the same branch (Hinckley).

Cheers Glenn.

I plan to fit the blade and transponder of my oldest key. I already made the blade fit the original RR flip key and it worked fine (apart from the fact it won't open the central doorlock, which is why I bought a key through Dave).

Looking forward to it arriving Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Thanks Dave,

Arrived, cut and working!

Anyone managed to fit one on a keyring?

Anyone know where to get the ring attachments at the bottom? I've tried using a small ring but it looks cheap. Would love to find something like in the picture. I'd pay for a new keychain just to take that piece off and put it on this.

Strewth I've had a hard time trying to get mine cut today, 4 places turned me away with a generic 'we dont cut keys we dont supply' answer. Getting really frustrated I was about to give up when I remembered a little place that specialises in upvc locks / keys etc. It was like walking into a scene from the matrix with 'the keymaker' and boy did this guy know his stuff. I tried to tell him these keys were supposed to be good quality but he smirked and replied 'they all say that my friend'. He said he would agree to cut the key but if its a peice of garbage it will hurt his key cutting machine and I would still have to pay him even tho he would cease cutting me a key at that point, so I agreed Laughing

Off he went into the matrix and came back a couple of minutes later with a smile on his face holding the freshly cut key. 'You were right' he said to me, 'these are very very good quality keys and you shouldnt have any issues with them breaking' If you encounter any probs with programming it Id be happy to help you Bow down Although I do hope I can get that bit done without any issues

Yaaaaaaaaaayyyyy Thanks Daveo Thumbs Up

After my hiccup with the transponder chip all is now perfect. Cutting the key was only £3, Looks the part. Thanks Daveo

Unfortunately not by the look of it but thanks anyway. One I went to today said they could but wouldn't do it as not supplied by them and the Timpsons I went to said it was company policy not to. Rolling Eyes

Try holding it up near to the door pillar - above the steering wheel. If the battery is a bit low the range could be reduced. I had that problem with one of mine.

You don't replace the battery in the new keys, they charge while they are in the ignition. Sync the keys sitting in the car.
