Davao, at the risk of sounding dumb, what exactly is involved in transferring the transponder across and is this something that requires some electrician skills eg soldering etc?

no its very easy, just like changing the battery, when you take apart the remote just infront of the circuit board at the key end you will see a small black chip, this it the transponder remove it and replace it into the new key, bingo your done... Worth noting that the key blades have to be laser cut. |

Is it possible to get new transponder chips? I have been trying to do this key update for a while now and have collected many spares and different fobs. I have an 06 facelift with the BMW key. I have got the circuit board for an 07 flip key but need a new transponder for it and it coding to the ews.

Ok... on the landrover flip style keys the transponder is part of the circuit board, these cannot be removed and the chances of getting a blank one is very low, when I first converted a diamond key to fit inside the flip case it was the transponder that caused the problem as it was not a blank chip as I was told and then it confuses the car resulting in your car locking the ignition out.

Unfortunately that is one thing that I don't have. Is the ews easily accessible and would it be identified on there as being a ford part? |

the EWS is located on the right side of th centre console level with the gear shift, its down the side and on the 02 to 05 looks like a grey box about the size of a ciggi packet.
