there are used ones on ebay starting around £45'ish but not sure if it has to be coded by the dealer..

If it was a wiring problem, would it still show 'immobiliser(ews)' fault code ? |

the ews immobiliser error refers to the immobiliser itself , ews stands for Elektronische WegfahrSperre which means 'electronic immobiliser' in german....

I'll get a new battery for the remote tomorrow and try it ... got to be worth going for the cheapest option first. |

Use this link to program the spare key and try starting with that one then at least that eliminates key failure and you will have two keys

Can you have someone turn the key while you tap the starter motor/relay with a heavy piece of wood or rubber/wooden hammer ?? Just to make sure the relay or starter motor are not at fault. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

There's no power going to the starter solenoid cable when cranking.. |

Looking at the Workshop manual for the 2005 TD6, you may be right that the problem is in the immobilizer module
