led halo's

OK here are a few pics of my halo project, i know halo's are not every ones cup of tea but i like them, i did a wiki on how to dismantle your head lamp, not just to fit the halo's but just to show how to fix a few probs like the trim ring coming lose and the main lens popping of the adjuster
after a few prob with the supplier sending the wrong size rings i finaly got it sorted, here are some picks of the rings, they are the covered type so you don't have a ring of yellow smd's glaring at you, you can still see them if you look hard enough but to the normal eye they are almost invisible.

they came with a very nice loom that incorparated a relay and fuse/holder, it has two switch lines one for a direct live from your head lights or switch and the other that connects to your curtsy lights, this will light the rings as you unlock your car and they will fade out the same as the interia lights when locked.

the rings are full rings and are flat backed so they sit flat, unlike others the wires also come out the back so they will be 100% hidden. they are around 5000k and standard xenon lights are 4300k, again my self i like the 5000k as i fill 6000k plus start to go blue

i am still trying to sort out a good price with the supplies,
here's a few pics with the rings on my test lamp, this is just to give some idea on ow they will look.

here a few pics with the shutter closed to cut out some of the glare, i think they match the 5000k xenon's very well

the mock up went well so i think i will whip out my lights and do the full job, the last two pic's dont do it justice as i had the light on the camera shut right down and it started to pic out the individual smd's, you would never get this effect with the normal eye, they appear as one light ring. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

OK, looking for a bit of feedback. i have all the rings mounted, they fit great.will post some pics when i get a mo, also redone the xenon conversion on my high beam, i have now found a way to fix the bulbs correctly, the kit i used allows you to flash at 75% brightness, it gives you about 1 second flash,, now what i wanted was a bit of feedback on how they should come on. they came with a relay with 2 switch wires, one for the ignition live and the other you can connect to your interior lights so the halos come on when you unlock the car..now i don't know if i will use the relay as they don't draw that much and i fault i could connect them direct.
i could have them come on with the ignition and stay on only to go off after i switch the car off.
i could connect them to my side lights so i have to switch the side lights on to work.
i could have them come on with the ignition and go off when the lights are switched on.
not sure what way to go... V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

They look very professional Dave. I would go for them to come on with the ignition and go off when the heads are on.
I have read someware this is a legal requirement. (I think). Perhaps you could post some details of the types you have used and the supplier when you get a mo.
Stewart.

hi, yes i thought about having them go off when the lights are on but then i would loose the halo on the high beam but if its a legal req, then it will have to be, any one know if it is a legal point or do you have a BMW with halo's and do they go off. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

@daveo
This is an extract from the Roads Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989 regarding running lights .

As far as I can tell there is nothing in the regulations to to stop you using your led halos all the time the ignition is on irrespective of which lights you have on the car.
I'm not even certain the Regulations apply to retrospective fitting of such led halos.
They could possibly be considered "optional front position lamps" under the Regulations.
From my experience of using led halos in foglights however I would suggest you might need to reduce the light output of your leds in light conditions in which you may use side lights or dipped headlights. The leds are very bright in these conditions and could conceivably cause dazzle to other road users. This is included in the Regulations for all lights.
To avoid this with my leds I reduced the output to approx 70% of normal when selecting dipped headlights which seems to be acceptable.
Because of the seperate dip and main beam lamps on the FFRR this means the leds are also dimmed on main beam as the dipped beams also stay on with main beam.

I'm normally not a fan of these things, but I'm really impressed by your work, Dave.

And I'd also be very interested in a price for you doing mine, if that's something you'd consider.

Maybe do them on an exchange basis? Si. <This is my name.

thanks for the reply's, i have also done some digging and it appears, if the halos are part of the headlamp them selves they can remain on with the head lamps but if the halos or DRL's are a separate unit then they should switch of when the main headlamp is on...now i think i favor the on all the time with the ignition just wondering if i need to use the relay or can i go with the ignition live in the headlamp..

after it is all done and working i will give out all the details needed to do them, i don't want to start advising on parts and then change my mind, plus i want the supplier to offer forum members a discount.

when finished the 06 headlamp will be tri-xenon with 5000k error free main's that will be able to flash at almost full power, i have already fitted these but will be making all tidy and the dips D1S,5000k super bright halo's, the fog lamps will also be 5000K 55W can-bus error free xenon lamps. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.
