Yep, did mine myself, and I am no expert at spray painting etc.

I rubbed down the rust, painted it with Hammerite satin black to cure/kill/stop the rust, then sprayed over with genuine colour spray paint from Dan @ Duckworths, gave it 2 coats, then 2 coats of clear lacquer afterwards.

Did it in between other outdoor jobs one weekend, all looks fine now, but mine was only surface rust, not corroded metal flaking away or anything.

If your car is a 2008 model, couldn't you have it done under warranty?

Paul.

Hi Guys,

Id had my FFRR about a week when i noticed the rust on both the inner arches, back it went to the dealer and they sorted it no bother, however whilst in they lent me a freelander and i noticed that it had cover strips for the exposed metal on the arches. I then enquired just to check that they werent missing on my car, and no they werent supposed to be there.

I even went as far as to have a look at the spanker in Hunters, it didnt have any either. I asked the parts guy if they had any for the freelander in stock, and he pulled out a set for a Sport which were longer and straight and only a couple of squids each.

Two long ones and a short one (half for each side) were bought and fitted and bobs your mothers brother, protected lips. £13.
and they look like they are supposed to be there, cos they are on all the other models they make!!

sorry binned the wrappers, got them from the Parts desk at Hunters LR in derby, only last week so they will probably remember (bought them with boot mat). Give them a call and see if they will give you the numbers.

I have looked on Microcat and I think the part no is CLB500061 but dont quote me on that. The part no for the same bit for the F/lander is LR005165 though these are slightly bent and special order, the ones that are for the sport are straight and were in stock. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Well I spent half an hour at the dealers this morning, sorting out these edge protectors.

I'll go and get a pic in a min - not fitted yet. Need to clean the arch and put some Vasalene in the protector and cut to length etc.

I bought 2 off VLR001623 for a grand total of £9.19 inc VAT.

They are 30 inch long, and were cheaper than the shorter ones !!

I figured I could cut to length.......

I examined a RRS when I was there, and it only had the protector on the bit of the arch under the rear quarter panel, not under the bit that the rear door overhangs - if that makes any sense.

Land Rover had loads in, different lengths etc, and as we are only getting some to fit, it doesn't have to be for a specific model.

I'll go and get a pic......

Here we go - not on, but I'm sure you get the idea....

Looks like an excellent find mate. Well happy........

That the puppy. The longer the better, that's what my missis says anyway. Hopefully they will stop the rot, well in that area anyway, seems to Me they should have been fitted at the factory and someone forgot To put it on the job sheet. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Rolling with laughter You spend a lot of time under the rear wheel arches with the missis then !!

The Land Rover parts guy asked whether I was going to fit them on the front.......

......but that seems a narrower lip, and is aluminium, so less of an issue I think.

Intend to have a look at fitting it tomorrow, and will post a pic if one's not been uploaded already.

Just been in the workshop to do a bit of prep - if you want to do the entire wheel arches you will need 4 of the strips.

If you are happy to have a join, you can get away with 3 strips, as the offcuts make up the shortfall.

As I mentioned before, the RRS has just 2.......

It looks like there is a metal strip in the rubber to help it keep it's shape, so don't go mad with your best scissors ! 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I used a set of heavy duty wire cutters to trim to length, worked a treat.

cant figure how to post pics, but needless to say, when on they look like they should be there. Adding a bit of vaseline is a good idea, keep the water out and all that.

What with these and the door rubbers there is no metal exposed to get the hammer of the weather.

Im assuming the front wings will be ok as they are ally, and as you no doubt know the rear 1/4 are the rotty bits being steel. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Just finished putting them on. Well pleased with the result.

I still have Vasaline all over the paint etc, but the pics below should show you the end result.

A few pics with rear door open and closed etc.

Less than £20..........

Ideally we'd all have the panels replaced, and then do it, but in the real world, it's got to help.

If you want to see how they look in the flesh, find a Range Rover Sport and look at the arch under the rear quarter.......

Many thanks northermonkeyjones.
