A rubber seal inside the lip of the rear wheel arch on my 2006 Vogue has been blasted from its moorings by an over zealous car washer. I've tried pressing it back into place but it soon detaches again.Any quick cheap fixes - or does the bodyshop beckon?

I've used the door edge protector shown below on the wheel arch return flange.
Had it on a couple of years up to now.
Before fitting I cleaned the flange on both faces and applied a liberal coating of black grease to each face, fitted the protector strip and cleaned off the excess grease.
Just took the strips off recently to clean, regrease and refit. The flanges are like new.
Done my daughters Freelander the same way instead of using the LR replacement part.
IMO the plastic strip is better than the LR strips as it is all plastic and therefore doesn't corrode.
Looks very professional when fitted.

Having seen this post via another recent similar post, on the basis that it's tried and long term tested by NDF (and has good logic in that there is no metal in it) I've just ordered 2 x 2M strips of these for £5.98 delivered.

@NDF - what 'black grease' did you use please and where can it be bought?

Me too! Going to smother it with any old grease or waxoyl lieing around in the workshop

The black grease I use came from Halfords and is Comma CV Lith-Moly Grease. To be honest any general purpose grease would suffice.
I also use it to "paint" the rear suspension arms which can appear to look "rusty" otherwise.

@ndf - would your grease 'paint' do the job on the rear tow eye too (showing minor signs of oxidised discolouration) or is there an alternate rattle can solution for the rear tow eye?

Today bought the Comma grease (£6.99 Halfords) as advised by ndf and set about fitting the rear arch strips recommended by ndf too.

My process was this:

1. Spray hose wheel arches and in particular the inside of the flanges via the underside of the wheel arches.

2. Shampoo sponge clean the arches in same areas hosed.

3. Tardis degreaser applied to the arches and inner flanges rubbing them with a microfibre cloth.

4. Iron X the arches and inner flanges (the product is sold with labelling that also claims to help prevent the spread of rust once applied).

4A. Wipe off, then Hose off Iron X with water.

5. Dry off the arches and inner flanges with an old cotton towel.

6. Size the black protective strips and cut them to required size (I could only do this by having a 2 piece effect around the arch because of the recess on the inner flange at about the 12 o'clock position so it's not a continuous strip all around and there's about an inch of metal exposed at the 12 o'clock position).

7. Wearing disposable rubber gloves, packed the Comma grease into the inner flanges (packed via fingers) , caked the exposed painted arches in grease before getting a paint brush and applying another coat of grease along the inner flanges to make sure it was in all the nooks and crannies.

8. Finally, applied the 'cut to size' protective rubber strips (they are a tight fit) before wiping off all grease.

Hope this was correct procedure and will stop any rust recurring (arches recently repainted).

That's how I did it.
Just remember after each winter to remove the strips, clean the flanges and re-coat with grease before refitting.

@Joe90 - definition = "A flange is an external or internal ridge, or rim (lip)... " ... and we'll park it there methinks

That's what I have done in the last few weeks, just like NDFi, and was dirt cheap to do! If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!
