It had a new battery at Christmas.

The FBH fires up and works as it should when the cold engine asks it to.

I just can't get the cabin heating to work.

Maybe somebody could get a screenshot of the touch screen display so I can compare mine Thumbs Up

Maybe I don't have the aux heating activated.

Paul

I have exactly the same issues that you are expeiriencing

On my touchscreen i have the timed climate which states on it 30 minutes of venting or heating and you can set two diffrenet times in the one day, i also have a manual softkey. When i set it to timed you can hear the fans power on but no FBH, when i select the manual softkey nothing happens not even fans.

Howvever i know that the FBH is working as yesterday it was cold first thing in Cardiff and when i started the car i heared the familiar noise on left on side (sounds like a bee farting!!) so i opened the bonnett and could hear the FBH starting up and then the jet turbine sound along with exhaust fumes. I also found the exhaust underneath and nice hot funes coming out, so FBH works fine.

So kit works when the engine is on and at 5c or below but not when selected via timed or manually? Can anyone help solve this little issue for me? Dont really want to go to dealer as we do not exactly see eye to eye.

I had the same problem. I haven't fixed it, but this works for me. After the fbh is turned on, I unlock the car with the remote. Then the hot air starts to blow in the cabin.

Hi cliffy

Evening all

I fitted my new burner chamber and glow plug tonight and guess what...
It still doesn't work, no difference at all, Censored

I tried running it in two parts so i could see the working,
Glow plug warms up fan starts water pump start,
But still no fuel pump,

So think I'm going to try a second hand ecu.

If that doesn't work then it's back to the drawing board RANGE ROVER 04 TD6

Hi JR,
Sorry, didn't have time to reply yesterday when I first saw this thread.

When the FBH first starts, the sequence should be: glow plug ~30-45 secs, fuel pump ~5 secs, and then the combustion air blower (my times could be off a bit - I worked on the older generation of FBHs and it's been over 15 years... Shocked - but the order is correct).
On a properly functioning FBH, after this sequence you should hear the FBH ignite (the hair drier sound of the combustion air blower goes over to a jet engine sound). There is a flame sensor installed in the combustion chamber (which you should have had to remove and re-install) and if this does not pass a signal on to the ECU the sequence is halted and the FBH shuts down.
The fuel pump meters the correct amount of fuel for proper combustion through pulses from the ECU.

Your description of the problem does sound like the amplifier circuit in the FBH ECU which runs the fuel pump may be bad. I'd have an ECU on my list of things to check next too.

oh that sounds like its going to dent your pocket then  , my td6 is silent when i unlock it. the fbh only fires up after the engines running and the outside temp is low.
My TD6 did the same I removed the fuze and left it out over the summer. Replaced it in the winter and it appears to have rectified itself.v(Fingers crossed) Diver Bryn

Hi paul B

I take it you have sat nav. Have you tried the direct mode
With key in position 2.

And for the timed have you turned temp high and puts fan on full auto
Before turning the car off.

Jr i have tried what you said but in the handbook it states key position 1 and still nothing when the manual softkey is pressed. On the timed climate section it says on the screen 30 minutes timed heating or ventilation which is based on a ambient temp of 16c ie above 16c it vents and below it is supposed to heat. When i select timed mode the fans come on ok but no heat even when its freezing in Wales!!! As i say i know the FBH works when heating the engine (which comes on at about 7c although the it is upposed to be 5c but then i dont suppose the sensor is that accurate) as i have seen the fumes and felt the heat out the FBH exhaust.

It is just getting to be one of those little frustrating things that you can not let go off!!

Cheers Steve but 1 day late Thumbs Up

Well today I had a trip to a guy I contacted on flee-bay last night
who was selling a 2002 530D BMW FBH Unsure if it was can-bus but I thought id give I a try.

I Fitted it when I got back from work tonight using my pump, fan, and new burner and glow plug chamber all fitted to this second hand ECU.

First thing I noticed was when connecting the power and control plugs was the burner did not fire up like my old one?
(thought it was duff)

So I hit my remote start button,....... fan starts Razz for about 10 secs then slows down, click click I'm hearing the fuel pump, and then I hear my little jet engine fire Bow down Bow down .

I'm back in business but need to try the interior controls and make sure they with the can-bus etc.

all works fine, it was a little smokey for the first 5 or so minutes but all back to normal now.

one thing has changed tho and that is when I lock, unlock, wake the car, the FBH fan does not start up any more only when I hit the remote start,

So I'm now thinking is it a different ECU config or was my old one on its way out all the time I've had the car???????????????

And the other thing is the Groan I was hearing coming from the FBH before it packed up?????

I hope this help other people with similar problems, if you have the same thing or would like to know more info send me a msg and ill do my best to help you out.

Now have for sale 2x working burner chambers and glow plugs 1x FBH water pump 1x FBH fan and gaskets
1x Knackered ECU and Heat exchanger Censored RANGE ROVER 04 TD6

Hi Renegade2

I'm not 100% on yours because I've got the non touch screen.

but yours sounds very funny like you say it works ok with engine running but not when asked to buy the the touch screen,
which first leads me to think battery voltage? this would stop the FBH running but not sure about internal fans as these are controlled by the car not the FBH.

Have you tested your battery when trying to start the FBH and watched the voltage drop? RANGE ROVER 04 TD6

Hi JR

thats another issue mate, i had a bad battery earlier this year and it died a few times so i had LR fit a new one, this i think is in trouble already as i have started getting the old HDC Inactive first thing in the morning. I have just had a new MXS10 charger arrive today so i am going to stick on the battery and give a good recon charge. Something has been drawing power. One thing i did do last weelend was change the FSR as this was known to not send the Hevac to sleep and i must say that heating system seems a great deal more responsive. Only problem was not being the smallest of people and no contortionist i have now done my back in, was a bitch of a job. I will see when fully charged up if this makes adiffrence on the touchscreen.

Thanks

Yes the hedgehog, need to be a midget to get up there, mind it was my own fault as i did watch properly when i took it out and therefore could not get the orientation right going back in!!! Learnt a lesson there!

No i cant say that i have ever noticed any noise when unlocking the car but i am intrigued now so off out to the driveway!!

What battery do you have on it. And do you have a multi meter.
