United Kingdom 2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Atacama Sand

I did this upgrade with the help of forum members here! its not difficult at all just buy the parts from Dan @ duckworths and ask him to send you the 2 specific bolts that fit into the bracket.

here's how I installed.

1) remove the old tailgate cable (right side), replace with new cable with metal nipple (which clips into the gas strut, make sure the nipple is the bolt that screws into the top side)
2) click the top of the gas strut (short end) to the metal nipple
3) click the lower end of the gas strut to the metal bracket
4) line up the bracket on the right upper side of the lower tailgate metal. If you see my photos I found that the best fit was a little higher up. (move the bracket around till it sits properly)
5) get a sharpie permanent markers and mark the centre of the 2 holes in the aligned bracket (1 of top and one on right side)
6) remove the bracket from the lower gas strut (to give room to drill)
7) centre punch the 2 black pen marks you made
8 ) drill a 2mm drill bit pilot hole in each (the hole on the right side will require you to lift the tailgate at 45 degress and then drill so you have the necessary access, you can put a soft towel on the bumper to avoid and metal bits damaging the paint)
9) drill a 5.5mm pilot hole after that (to expand the hole)
10) add a bit of primer or paint to both holes (let it dry)
11) clip the bracket back on to the lower gas strut
12) using the 2 x m6 land rover bolts Dan @ duckworths supplied start tightening them down (they are a perfect fit)
13) close the tailgate and test, the tailgate will drop fairly quickly from 90 degrees to 55 and then the strut dampens it to about 10 degrees where it falls a bit quicker.
14) I added a bit of wd40 to all the strut moving parts

Hope this helps!

Australia 2008 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Rimini Red

You probably don't want to here this but I looks to me you have mounted the bracket too far from the car body , To work properly the bracket needs to be as low as possible on the tail gate. 2008 MY Supercharged

Happy to report successful fitting of kit following advice and guidance on this thread. Used the two M6 bolts supplied by Dan to fix the mounting plate. Not really enough depth of metal to get a good thread going having tapped out the holes with an M6 x 1.0 so didn't do these up too tight. Will have to see how they hold, but one sunny day may have the carpet up and fit nuts on the back. I also get the damping effect and then the final gentle "drop".

Found that by wiggling the mounting plate back and forth it finds it's correct location.

Also fitted the recessed tailgate rubber cover. Much better.

Yes, support strap was quite rusty and wet, so worth replacing the other side in time. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

I fitted mine yesterday as above, i quickly found that the bolts weren't that secure. Put nuts on the back, that wasn't a two minute job Big Cry However all in all a good mod with a dampened tail Thumbs Up
