Last couple of days i have noticed that trying to take the gear selector from Park to Reverse is getting a lot harder and stiffer .....

have you tried the 'wd40 on the linkage' yet mick.. ... - .- -.

After you have got the link pivots and cable free using wd 40 coat them with grease for longer term protection. WD 40 won't protect and lubricate for long. |

Under the car, drivers side in-line with front of cubby box. In between the gearbox sump and the catalytic convertor you will see the link / sliding rod on the side of the gearbox which links the the gear selector knob with the gearbox as in photo.
Simply a case of spraying the two pivots and the sliding rod with wd 40, working the gear selector knob backwards and forwards and when the wd 40 is dry coating the links and rod with general purpose grease. Should stay lubricated for a while. Mines just been done so is covered in grease.
