New to the forum and I'm looking for a little help.

Have searched and I can only find one thread with similar problems but I didn't get any information on the where abouts of the oil pressure sensor.

I've got a 4.4 tdv8 range rover, I'm getting the oil light flash up for not even a second only on first start of the day.


I've changed the oil and filter, where are the oil pressure sensors on these?

Good news is it's right at the top and front of the engine by the auxiliary belt, above the upper left pulley (as seen facing the engine bay).

Thank you for the swift reply, I'm using my mobile and can't seem to find the file or part numbers

Could the level sensor cause that sort of issue?

I get low oil pressure on cold startup if I park on a steep uphill slope. It's not a sensor fault as it never happens on the level. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

It will be a sensor issue, just not sure if it's the level sensor or pressure sensor

AFAIK the level sensor displays a low oil text info on the dash. The 'oil can' light on the instrument is low pressure. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

If of any assistance, the oil level sensor is on the bottom of the sump (I saw it today whilst changing the diff oils).

Very easy to access if needed, but does require an oil drain.

The bolts on my one aren't corroded, so it looks like mine may have been changed at some point. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Mine does this too, when parked on level or on incline.

Start car, all other dash lights switch off, oil pressure light flashes for not even a second and never comes on again. I assumed it’s either a momentary lack of pressure whilst pump gets going, or the beginnings of a failing sensor. I’ve not tested oil pressure with an independent gauge but will do so soonish to be certain.

Let me know how you get on with changing the sensor. I assume it’s a relatively simple job and no need to remove any other parts to access the sensor. Are any special tools required? Andy

On a slope mine comes on a few seconds after starting and lasts quite a few seconds accompanied by a definite rattling noise from the engine which stops as soon as the light goes out so I doubt it's the sensor on mine at least. I've had it happen on the level when I drained the oil from cold. I got nearly 1L more out than when doing a hot drain so likley quite a bit of oil is in the upper engine which drains down overnight and it's quite a long way to pump it back up again. Cold starts with thick oil generate max oil pressure but slowest circulation times so I think it's nothing to worry about. I never blip the throttle and always idle for 30 seconds before engaging drive in the mornings. An oil light showing on a hot engine at idle would be a big worry though..... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Just thought I'd update

Oil pressure sensor replaced and no oil light in the morning since, hopefully this helps someone else with a similar problem.
