Mines been done as well. My old egr valve was grubby as well. I'll post some pics when I get a chance. Just done 20-30 miles and got up to 29mpg. However I'll wait a week or 2 before I decide whether it's made any difference. FFRR TD6 HSE

I'm with nicedayforit on this. If you only need to prevent exhaust gases getting into the engine and not the airflow from the intercooler pipe, then ensuring that the EGR valve remains closed by removing the vacuum pipe should produce the same effect?

Oh, scarey, nice MPG figure, used to be able to get that in my P38A (V8 petrol) at steady 70, but never anywhere like it with my TD6.

I too am working on sorting out gearbox problems before i move onto this one  .

i am watching this with great interest. since i had the FFRR chipped i can break 30 mpg on the trip computer easily and was wondering if there is more to be gained down the EGR route.

the only problem is that the trip computer seems to be really on the high side.

i have just dragged my caravan over 600 miles in the last couple of weeks and kept a log of fuel and mpg etc.

when i did a full to full workout on paper when the trip was reading an average of 26mpg in reality it was only 20mpg on paper.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news!! can someone do a full to full check to get some real figures?? Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Regardless of what the real mpg is by fitting the EGR kit its an improvement and well worth the effort. IMHO

Will also be fitting a Blue fin chip ???

@stu, my mpg readout is very accurate as i found on a tank to tank calculation i done on a 75/80 mph journey over a hundred miles...result on readout was 24 mpg and 'real' mpg was 23.8 ...

mine is rubbish then!!! i did over 300 miles in one go last week tank to tank and the trip computer was 6mpg out..  Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Took the vacuum hose off and blanked it with an M4 x 20 screw.
Seems to have worked, now registering that I'm getting an extra 2mpg, I can get it up to 32mpg on the motor ways at 70mph, averaging about 24 to 25mpg with mixed driving long/short runs, lots of winding roads etc on MTRs.

What is everyone else averaging?

I reset my trip about 1500 miles ago and I have averaged 25.5mpg since, which I believe is quite accurate as I compared the displayed mpg a while ago with actual tank top-ups and it was less than 1 mpg out. On a 300 mile round trip to Cardiff a few months ago (no motorways but decent A roads and duel carriageway etc) I averaged 30 mpg No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Your MPG readings from the computer may not be accurate, but they will be relative.

If previously you were getting 22MPG and your now getting 24 MPG, thats still a ~10% improvement, regardless if your actual MPG was 18 or 25.

In regards to just blocking the vacume tube, that may work, but only if your lucky enough in that your valve wasn't jammed open with gunk (see Scarey's and my photos of egr valves) before you blocked off the control __________________

removing the egr valve and blanking it off is defo the way to go ..i'm getting between 3/4 mpg more at the moment ..it'll need a month or so to get a proper mpg average but its looking good..
