Well, I fitted mine as I just don't agree with dirty exhaust gasses being fed back into the engine.

The intake tract gets clogged up with black sludge. Not so easy to clear out the inlet manifold on the Td6 unit though.

Any mpg improvement is a bonus.

I've only had the Rangie for a couple of weeks and its been removed already, but I did the egr mod to my previous Td5 a few years ago, and never looked back.

Get it taken off......

.... but isn't the EGR system an anti pollution measure?

the egr is only an anti pollution measure when the engines brand new and running on a test bed, in real time after the engine has covered a few thousand miles it becomes completely the reverse as it blocks the inlet with black sludgey crap that starves the engine of air reducing power and mpg and producing smoke. i think half the crap they fit to modern engines is a gimick to keep the tree hugers happy, if only they understood how an engine works they wouldnt be so quick to condem.

If you can get better MPG from an engine its surely better for the old polar bear anyway as less is going out of the exhaust.

The other by product of the EGR is to aid in warming of the engine.
Bit useless as most TD6's came with an FBH if not all which is a very enviromental way of heating the engine and the cabin!

OK, there just had to be a picture of a poor old polar bear. I feel guilty now.

That or I'm just fancying a mint..........

I thought the egr was only of any real use when the quality of the diesel is bad......ie, not in this country anyway....

....could be wrong.......

picked up the range after service and egr kit fitted; will have to wait till weekend for a bit of a run.
when fitter took it for a test run it blew the air intake pipe off when booting it so had to refit over the flange
so dont know how this goes with the alisport one.

Fitted the allisoort egr blank kit very easy took about 30 minutes start to finish
It appears to have a little improvement in low down torque but other than that i cant really tell any difference
Oh well if its not there it cant break so im going to leave it on and see what happens onto no6 Range Rover

Allisport EGR bought some weeks ago but as the instructions were for a 2litre BMW I was going to get my mate to help. Anyway, he's been busy I so I decided to do it myself this morning with a little help from FFRR.com and hey presto it's done and with no dramas, which is quite an achievement for me! Very Happy

What next . . . . . . . .

Well I just fitted blanking plate EGR removal to 2005 Td6 after 1st getting remap (emaps), then full service including crank cas filter and can report the following re mpg:
1. Before doing anything 22mpg over 1 month
2. Remap 23mpg over 2 weeks
3. Service 23.6mpg over 2 weeks
4. EGR removal 30.7mpg over just one trip to work and back which I do every day and usually get 24mpg after zeroing the trip meter.

Now obviously this isn't over a long period but seriously drove the same as I ever do over the same route with similar traffic to normal. I imagine with time the overall improvement wont be as good but its definitely an improvement.

Job was very easy with the only challenge undoing the two lower bolts holding the original housing (far easier to put back with the replacement piece) and no error messages. Most of the time was taken cleaning out all the crud from the inlet side of the valve and am pretty sure the valve has been non functional due to all the build up so if any improvement in mpg is to be seen I would suggest disconnecting the valve is a non starter and the whole valve should be replaced allowing clean cool air into the engine.

Cheers
T
