i think it does . the egr blanking increases the NOx emission levels so a mot test will probably pick it up... |

no. Its for emissions but our fuel is so good here its not req. It takes exhaust gas's and puts them back through the engine to make sure its burned properly. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

we been through this before, i fitted a blanking kit several months ago. time wise it only take about 10 minutes to fit, very easy job. mpg and performance is definatly improved aswel. well worth the upgrade. |

I have not fitted one of these but i was doing an oil change the other day and if you remove the first plastic cover on the engine the one right at the front that goes around the pas reservoir once thats removed were its fitted is if you look at the engine by the pas reservoir find the big black intercooler hose and follow it to the engine and you should see a similer looking item to the one you want to replace and i believe theres four bolts i would say atleast get a new gasket for were it bolts to the inlet and thats about it obviously i have not fitted one so its hard to say what else there is but if i had thaught about it a would have got one to fit after all if its not there it cant break onto no6 Range Rover

As the EGR on the Td6 is purely mechanical, there’s no need for a kit; just remove the vacuum rubber hose from the EGR, plug a peg in it (I used a Pilates ball peg) and strap it to something. No need to remove covers, just feel the hose along the steering reservoir and pull it. For me the result was no smoke at all even when flooring the pedal. As a mechanic friend said, the EGR is like putting a hose in you’re a*s and then breathing with it stuck in a nostril… |

I agree that is one way to do it but it does assume that the egr valve is working correctly beforehand ie it is closed to the exhaust gases. If for any reason it is partially stuck open removing the vacuum hose does nothing, you still have exhaust gases flowing permanently. If you are confident that the egr valve is working then it is definitely worth doing. The other way to avoid buying a kit is to simply undo the two bolts that hold the byepass hose connection to the exhaust manifold and slide a piece of thin sheet metal between the manifold face and the hose connection face and tighten the bolts back down. The only complication is will the two bolts slaken without problems, sometimes they can be "awkward" Doing it this way blocks the exhaust gases for good without worrying about the egr. Buying a kit does have the advantage that that it could be just a 10min job without any likely complications. |

to be honest i didnt do a tank to tank after just fitting the bypass kit, the obc said i gained 2mpg. even if thats optamistic any improvement is a benefit really. the kit combined with a remap and a straight through exhaust the old girl return 33mpg on a run at 75 on cruise. on the note of just plugging the vacume pipe, the kit is beneficial as it has no restriction in the body like the egr does, if you look inside the egr only half of the opening is available for airflow as the rest in full of the valve so again the the kit is an advantage. |

In addition to blanking it any good engine mapper can stop the EGR signal being sent to open it and force it to stay closed at any time. Used to have:

Assuming the egr valve isn't jammed open in the first place which they frequently are. On a diesel these valves are usually so gummed up by 50k they don't work anyway. If you are lucky the valve is jammed shut and not passing exhaust gases so no need for a egr replacement kit, if you are unlucky the valve is jammed open or partially open in which case the build up of gunge in the inlet manifold continues unabated. It's definitely worth taking the valve off and having a look at it's condition internally and either cleaning it out or replacing it with new or a byepass kit. Why this isn't in the lr maintenance schedules is beyond me. |

I'm going to give the disconnect vacuum hose option a try. I removed the pipe, plugged it with a suitable crosshead bolt, and tied it with a cable tie to a rubber hose that runs alongside the engine block just below the cylinder head.
