Trans fail prog

Hi all. My first l322 and absolutely love it. I have trans fail prog appear after driving a while. The codes are as follows. Any ideas please?

Most usual is defective transmission cooler, which mans the engine rad has slush in the bottom as well, the whole lot, including transmission cooler thermostat have to be replaced... You can check this with an IID tool or similar that will show you gearbox oil temp... There are other issues but that's the most common I know of... Pete

Thanks for the reply. I’ve not driven much but had noted it “smelt” hot when getting out and standing next to car. Just assumed it was the v8🤣 what should temps be if my solus can measure?

Thanks. I’m being told elsewhere I should get another reader as the snap on is rubbish for the rr 🤷‍♂️ So in your experience I should look towards cooler rather than the actual solenoid?

That code tells us that your shift solenoid MV1 is open circuit i.e. it’s disconnected. This could be a solenoid problem or (more likely) it could be an issue with the transmission wiring harness. To enable us to determine which, it would be helpful if you could disconnect the 16-pin connector at the back of the transmission and measure the resistance between pins 8 & 16. You should measure around 28Ω. If you measure 0Ω then the next step is to remove the sump pan so that you can disconnect the wiring at the solenoid and measure the resistance between the solenoid terminals. Either way, it’s a relatively simple job to sort out. I have spare wiring harnesses and solenoids if you need anything.

Phil

Excellent, many thanks Phiil. In normal circumstances I’d be out there now with the multimeter and testing it. Sadly last Sunday I had a bike accident and have fractured shoulder, fractured spine and 6 broken ribs so I’ll waiting to get a mate to put up on ramp on probably Wednesday. Glad it doesn’t sound like a box change. It’s so much nicer than my p38 dse 🙈
