United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Zambezi Silver

Hello David!

Remember me!?

Just caught up on your thread here.. i'm in awe of the amount of work you have done with your SC. I put mine off the road in November. It has a leaking oil cooler line which I admittedly badly repaired..and it needs a new ball joint.

I have a lot of other bits going on at the moment so the RR probably won't see work this year..

I do often wonder what I will do with the SC as whenever I drive it I get a bit peeved at the crap fuel economy... that said i'd love to get it back to it's former glory and have it for the odd jaunt here and there. Your wheels are still sitting there, untouched LMAO. (07) 2007 3.6 TDV8 L322 - 135k miles.

Hi Conor, long time no speak! I reckon mine is averaging 11mpg or 50p a mile in fuel at the moment so it’s definitely a car you’ve got to want to drive Very Happy

Must admit, I read this thread from start to finish a few days ago and there’s a lot of work I’ve done that I’d totally forgotten about Laughing I really hope the wife never finds this thread! Rolling with laughter

We had friends visit today so I didn’t get out to the workshop until gone 5.

I removed the rear wheel and had the arch liner off in 10 mins and then proceeded to remove the solenoid from the Petrol return. Pictures taken with the electronic part of the solenoid removed.

For quickness and to test my theory of this being the cause of my problems I’ve blocked both ends of the solenoid with chemical metal and have used a bolt that’s a very tight fit in the pipe on both sides as well.

I’m just giving the chemical metal some time to cure properly before reassembling this evening.

Once it’s reassembled I’ll have a look with the IID tool and see what the fuel pressure looks like. If it’s stable and this has cured the problem I’ll wait until the summer comes and the temperatures have improved and I’ll look to drop the covers and remove the tee from the pipe under the car or even replace the pipe that was cut.

I’ve gone to so much effort to remove the LPG, I might as well make sure there’s no signs it was ever there.

Car sat overnight and this morning fired into life instantly at the flick of the key. Looks like that has indeed been the cure and not the non return valve on the fuel pump.

Car felt like it was driving beautifully on the way home from getting the alignment checked this morning too.

Really hoping I’ve broken the back of the constant niggles now.

I’m now 70 miles of mixed driving in and no warning lights so all good Smile

Had the alignment tweaked again yesterday morning as I wasn’t happy and have to say it’s driving like a different car at the moment. Much more like my old one now. Smile

As of Friday evening the RR has covered 400 miles with the new sensors, and the fuel return sorted.

I'm pleased to say that we've got no fault codes stored and the cars feels better to drive then it did before too.

The 400 miles has included some long distance for work including a couple of days commuting from the hotel to the office in stop/start traffic so I'm fairly confident I'd have seen the light back on by now if it was going to.

Fingers crossed this continues for a bit!

Since changing the MAF, both oxygen sensors, sorting the vacuum leak and the fuel return issue, we're now 1000 miles in.

Car still starting instantly at the flick of a key so fuel return was definitely the issue, not the fuel pump as I first thought.

Engine management light has stayed off and fuel trims are showing nice and equal on diagnostics. Car is still driving nicely too Smile

So, since the engine rebuild, that's now 3000 miles on the clock, or, 10 x 100l tanks of petrol, and a ton of Shell Drivers Club points 🤣

Good job I didn't buy it thinking it'd be cheap to run!

As I understand it there are 4 oxygen sensors, did you do both fronts? Both rears? Or All 4? 2005 E60 M5

I only changed the front 2.

The rear 2 only monitor the catalyst efficiency, it's the front 2 that monitor the emissions and alter the fuel ratio.

Well, that's my understanding of it anyway Smile

That's my understanding as well, however i changed the post cat sensors as well because they age and I kept getting cat failure messages from one of them.
They are not expensive so it made sense to me to do them with the fronts.

Thanks David, I still an issue on mine but I wonder if actually its the front sensor that is causing the issue. Beyond me though, it'll have to be a job for the garage. 2005 E60 M5
