Is there a condensed version of this with a step by step guide of how to diagnose with an IID? Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

IID diagnoses this for you -- I have a persistent fault code as the title of the thread -- will not clear -- if your IID isn't showing the code then it's unlikely you don't have the problem Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Cool. From reading the whole thread, it seems the best route is to pay an MD / Rovertune to do it...? Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I don't know about changing something that aint broke,
personally disturbing things that don't need to be disturbed can add an element of error

Just my view.

I will be doing a write up when I get a chance.

If anyone wants to do this job themselves in the meantime, please PM me.

With the right prep and exactly the right tools it could take as little as 4 hours

Getting the exact tools was a trial and error which is why it took many weekends.

On that note I have the special socket - I got the Laser Tools version which is six sided not twelve sided like the JLR.
https://www.lasertools.co.uk/product/6850

It's no longer needed so happy to sell it for less that ordering a new one.
PM me for either.

. Cheers, Greg

Rob,
If it helps, I have had this Fault code ever since I bought an iid (2years), so presumably it was their before.
My local indi Range Rover specialist isn’t willing to give me a quote because he says it is impossible to say how long it will take.
He did tell me that one effect is that it prevents him ever being able to activate a “ Forced “ DPF regen., but otherwise I can’t see any other benefits.
I am watching Greg’s reports with interest to see if he now gets less DPF soot level problems.

Well I passed the new, stricter MOT smoke test around a week ago. I was worried. I was also worried they would see my DPF that has been cut out, cleaned and refitted around a year ago. But that was no bother, they said fine.
This is my DPF on the floor a while back, you can see where the joint clamps ended up:

http://www.fullfatrr.com/gallery/albums/us...G_0164.JPG

Back to the sensor: After a few months now, I don't think changing the sensor has made a difference positive or negative to the DPF situation. It is satisfying not to see the error. But a bit of a downer it didn't improve DPF performance. At least it gives a result in terms of process of elimination, for example I have read about throttle bodies playing up, might check that out next. Otherwise I'll resign myself to doing a DPF regen regularly.

I did work out something interesting, regens seem to align with fuel tanks, it seems to be one regeneration per tank, which is an interesting correlation - that is quite logical I guess.

Fuel usage to miles: Sometimes I get 300 miles a tank (all city) I've had 460 miles with mixed city, mostly motorway. Which seems about normal. I know some motorway guys have reported over 500 miles.

This tank I'm on now - I seem to getting rubbish fuel economy. Half a tank's only got me 100 miles so far. Cold weather maybe? Zero motorway and a short 2 miles to work, 2 miles home. It's barely warm by then.

I love this engine, it's absolutely epic. But it's not great for my driving pattern. If the cost to me is monthly regeneration runs, I'm absolutely fine with that. The 4.4's totally worth it.

.
. Cheers, Greg

Based on learnings above and throughout this thread,
I've done a 'clean' write-up / wiki for how to change the sensor here:
