Out of interest, how much is a replacement AC compressor and control valve for an L322? My AC is all over the place too so I’ll probably budget to have that job done in the next few months. Happy to use Glenrands on recommendation as fairly local to me near Alton.

I think the control valve is part of the compressor, so if you have a new compressor you’ll be fine.

You can get it separate, but you might as well do compressor whilst it’s all stripped down. Don’t want that failing 2 weeks after you change the valve.... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Sorry Fanders, I’m not sure your compressor is the same design, you’d better check. Is the strange valve thing only used on the 2010 onwards cars?

I don’t know, but would expect the control valve and compressor to be separate components (I haven’t researched the system well enough). My AC compressor is fairly noisy, you can hear a marked change in noise level when engaging the system with the AC switch. So probably worn bearings, and worth changing the compressor and valve. I’m on 95,000 miles now.

Just an update on my slow AC - went to Glenrands in Liphook today on Dr. Rob's recommendation and they diagnosed that the fill port Schrader valve was leaking and I was about 100g low on refrigerant. System drained down, leak tested and refilled and all seems good, much quieter than before. That was good, as I had prepared to cough up for replacement of some parts of the system.

Glenrands look like a good operation, friendly and knowledgable staff.

Hope this is of some help in these warm summer days (!! if only !!).

Also had slow working AC, went for a recharge and mine was also 120gr low, now fully charged and pumps out cold air after a couple of minutes rather than the 10 mins before. Fingers crossed 🤞

That’s good then. Mine has never been right, so I’m not sure I will be that lucky....

My AC problem (posted 18 June) is now fixed thanks to Dr Rob's Glenrands recommendation. It all boiled down to a defective 'Pollution Sensor'. After my experience with Glenrands, I'm happy to join Dr Rob in recommending the outfit. Specialists in Land Rover vehicles, and a pleasant bunch too, who will let you in the workshop, and share their expertise. Beats the main dealers with their fancy facades, inflated prices, and cappuccinos - Ross, the owner of Glenrands, made me a coffee in a mug which tasted very much like tea, but who's complaining - these are real Landrover people !!

Quick update:
Air con functioning perfectly in this hot weather now I’ve had the compressor swapped out.

Hi guys just resurrecting this thread because this job is on my "todo" list.
This morning I watched a new Samcrac video where he has this exact problem on a Bentayga
access is easy but it does make me wonder if the valve can be replaced in-situ?
I read through all the pages and I think I only saw compressor removal?

Sorry to disappoint but there is no way to change valve with the compressor in situ.

I think on the L322 the end of the valve points to the engine block or something immovable, so you have to remove the air con compressor to get it out, and the consensus is that if you are doing that you might as well fit a new unit, complete with new valve.

What I never really got an answer to was whether there was an aftermarket compressor that didn’t have the valve issue, as a few folk had the same issue again after changing compressors… not straight after though…..
